Yes, Kessler got floored by Allen Green but Kessler got up and produced one of the KO's of the year, so it's a little harsh to be judging him to be in decline from that, esp when Green is a very decent puncher.

If it comes off it will be interesting to see how each of them approach the fight. Froch already tried his usual approach of out-manning his opponent and lost, so will he try and box more? And I'm sure Kessler won't wanna go through the hell he did in the first fight again either.

Everyone is talking about redemption, has anyone stopped to think how detrimental it will be to Froch if he loses to a supposedly shot/on the slide Kessler?
I'm not basing how well Forch does on Kessler and how far off he has fallen since they fought. It's based on what happened in the ring when they fought. Always felt Froch let it slip as opposed to Kessler taking it away from him.
Like Taylor let it slip as opposed to Froch taking it away from him?

Magee might be a decent test to see what Kessler has got left. I do agree he is in decline - I think injuries and wear and tear started to take its toll before the Froch fight (although I disagree with the view that Calzaghe ruined him - I think some of his fights post Calzaghe were his best displays).

However, nobody was saying he was shot after the Boudala fight - he looked really good there. Perhaps, the Green fight was just an off night.

Not.

In case anyone missed it:

x about eleven thousand over the course of the fight.

Then afterwards: "Carl didn't look himself in the mid-late rounds, it must've been the Danish bacon...?"

FFS.

Also: The level of hyperbole & well-wishing in this thread is lovely & heartwarming, but you're all nucking futs imo. Mack wouldn't last six rounds with Green, FFS.

Let's see how well Froch's new super-duper wonder abilities last when he's got someone as big & strong & rangy as he is thumping him back in a place that his weird herky-jerky defence doesn't cover.

I love him. I do. But he lost the first fight, not because of some deficiency or gameplan or tactical error, but because he finally found one bloke he couldn't out-man for twelve rounds.

He does a worse job on the midget Abraham than Dirrell, beats up a Canadian who'd never really been tested, does a journeyman who hasn't fought at the weight in a billion years...

& he's going to go in there & sweep Kessler aside as if the big tattooed bastard were made of tissue paper.

Fvck's sake.

Ahem.

Sorry, what was the question again?

Magee will be interesting because he has showed some really good bodypunching in the last couple of years. on the other hand, whilst he's quite a clever ring general, he's not the fleetest of foot so he will be pretty much right in front of Kessler, and I think Kessler's harder-hitting, without the guy in the other corner having athleticism to offset it, will be the decider.

Kessler will probably target Magee's body, with right hands.

I disagree strongly on the above point.

I have seen no evidence of this in prior matches.

On what do you base this outlandish speculation?

As I said I had Kessler 117-111. The Froch love in here has me thinking Froch must have thrown the fight :TU:

Maybe I mis-read earlier, but I gave Abraham the first 4 and a half rounds against Ward but I struggled to give him more than a round or so against Froch. Stan scored it 108-120 Ward and must have kept his pipe warm for Jerry Roth.

Actually, "worse job" vs the midget Abraham was heat-of-the-moment hyperbole.

Abraham stopped fighting after about thirty seconds with Carl, looked physically intimidated from the get-go. Never fought back, never tried something else when his shit didn't work.

Wasn't the case vs the pair of Andres, he wasn't intimidated, so at least he tried to fight back in those.

IMO Kessler would make Abraham shut right down in an eerily similar manner.

Except with more right hands to the body, natch.

Yeah but to KO someone in the last 10 seconds is just emense... noone can take that away! That's what legends do!

What I never got with AA is that he's not a big body puncher, he targets the head. He's ideal for body punching but you don't see it too often. Always puzzles me.

AA would have to bring his hands down lower that 0.5" to throw a body shot. He is all about marching forward with that tight defence and he would leave himself open throwing body shots. Especially with his lack of speed and footwork

I remember commenting after the Kessler fight that maybe Froch isn't as iron as we thought (although I'm sure I mentioned chin where as others have been mentioning another area where he was hurt)

Although I'd say Dirrell and obviously Taylor hurt him with head shots.
