Brian Viloria vHernan Marquez....Wow
What a fight i've just watched and so happy for Viloria who seemed to be destined to be one of those boxers that just missed out on a big win.
It was one of those fights that could still of gone either way until that last punch was landed by Viloria. The flyweights often get over looked when end of year awards get handed out, but Viloria should get a few this year.
Anyone else see it?

Does this influx of new oboxious posters have something to do with ESB closing. Just a thought.

Also, I think you'll find it's the mods' job to ascertain whether or not something is inappropriate for a forum & Ian--as an age-old & liked poster--obviously felt confident about their likely response. But it's nice to see you've assumed their job for them.
Also, back on topic: Fvcking. Great. Fight.
I had kittens about six times. The fifth... I don't know how my heart didn't explode. That was deffo a knockdown of Viloria though, he was fvcked I thought & then out of the blue that counter left hook...!
His left hook to the body made me spray great gobs of foaming man-love about the place. & Marquez is not only a double-plus hard bastard but a surprisingly short choppingly correct puncher when he wants to be, & reminds me a teensy-tiny bit of Chiquita Gonzalez (though not as good or as switch-hitty or probably as chinny, to be honest).
I'd pay to see a rematch.

No idea Hagler, i hope it doesn't get silly on here like some other forums. This is the only one i post on.
And it was such a great fight i thought i'd tell people about it on the British board, as some had missed it.

I saw it on the Sunday but appreciate the opportunity to talk about it with people with a bit of sense (i.e. not with half the Current Scene).Old bones Ian wrote:No idea Hagler, i hope it doesn't get silly on here like some other forums. This is the only one i post on.

I thought Viloria's left hand out-did Marquez's right and therein lay his root to victoryDatsue wrote:Because he wished to discuss the fight?Objectivism wrote:No, I merely wondered why Bones was posting this in the British & Irish

The Chocolatito fight was also pretty good. The Drian Hernandez fight further down the undercard was wild too. Resembled two drunks going at it in a bar at times but it was pretty entertaining.

Damn straight, you long-winded bastard you! He has got a sexy left hand, that fella. Like you said somewhere, hard to believe it's the same bloke who lost to Romero etc, where he just looked a bit clueless when his shit wasn't working.
All of a sudden he's judging angles & infinitesimal movements & angles of attack & countering, like, & it turns out he's bloody good. Maybe even the "g" word, like, on his last three performances. I hope he follows this up with a big payday sort of fight. Bloke deserves it & has made me an unreserved fan.

You never know (& Viloria was never chinny, just a teensy bit clueless) but there might be hope for Amir yet...
Not that all his problems would be solved by having a boxing brain, because he'd still be chinny as fvck, like. But still...

Yes. Until I see Gonzalez in with someone reasonably handy, I have to side with the proven fella. & at the moment I can't think of anyone below--Fvck, bantamweight?--more proven.

apart from anything else I'm sure Viloria would dwarf Gonzalez.Datsue wrote:orbtastic wrote:Do you reckon he could beat Gonzalez?

Re: Brian Viloria vHernan Marquez....Wow
Was a great fight, these little guys are crinimally overlooked usually and they often provide more action in one fight than the higher weight guys do in half a dozen bouts. Another great fight over the weekend was Roman Gonzarlez latest defence of his light fly title against a guy whose name Ive forgotten ! but his surname is estrada. Anyway was a toe to toe barnstormer.
Re: Brian Viloria vHernan Marquez....Wow
glad you mentioned that, especially as viloria v gonzalez is supposed to be in the works. viloria might have to drop a title though, with the mandatory pressing.fatcity69 wrote:Was a great fight, these little guys are crinimally overlooked usually and they often provide more action in one fight than the higher weight guys do in half a dozen bouts. I would love to see Viloria and Gonzarlez square up, that would be a classic... I think Id lean towards Gonzarlez to win though hed be the smaller man, just think he would wear Viloria down...

I remember watching viloria many years ago as an am on sky and thinking he was amazing. Might have being a US vs UK show
Re: Brian Viloria vHernan Marquez....Wow
viloria has been in some outstanding fights - defeats to edgar sosa (when he responded badly to sosa punching back) and carlos tamara ( hammering the guy, then fading & getting stopped late); wins over ulises solis (showing grit, stamina, power and toughness) & now marquez (another long, tough fight).
he did struggle vs julio cesar miranda in the late stages though. the feeling is he's better as a flyweight rather than junior flyweight. but the question is, what happens when the opponent doesn't get knocked out or TKO'd by viloria's impressive-looking shots? does he flop again in the late stages? with pongsaklek finished & retired and donaire bound for featherweight (seemingly), viloria can make things interesting. hopefully the good fights keep coming.

For 65p/month (Wealth TV's price) allegedly should be fornicating ashamed.
Re: Brian Viloria vHernan Marquez....Wow
i don't know about being "so happy for viloria" though, because this guy has been given so many chances and could probably have been in lower weight superfights by now. that said, i'm more than happy to watch the little guys in fast paced fights vs tough opposition, the hard core fan type of matchups that will probably continue in a thriller with the guy who won on the undercard...
for talent viloria certainly is impressive. but for true solidness and consistency, pongsaklek wonjongkam was king.
