Scott Welch
Was just thinking about the heavyweights and Scott Welch came into my head as I remember the fights with Bugner and Big James Oyebola.
2 things.
Any idea what he's up to these days and how do you think he would have done against the British heavyweights in England today?

He was training Alex Dimitrenko but not sure if that is still the case.
Re: Scott Welch
has property in the brighton area.. ? hove
Re: Scott Welch
Yep, thought he'd made an absolute packet running old people's homes in Brighton/Hove.
Always liked him as a fighter and glad he's done well for himself.

Re: Scott Welch
The guys one of my all time hero s hope he s ok after that accident he had great guy great fighter
Re: Scott Welch
A hard man who was in some decent matches. The way Welch brutalised the late James Oyebola, who (for younger readers) was a huge, scary-looking, ripped to the bone Nigerian-Brit, was Tyson like.

Re: Scott Welch
It seemed to me that Scott had a very brief peak, but lost heart with the Akinwande fight and certainly was getting past it by the time Julius Francis outboxed him. Basically he was just a rough, tough domestic fighter like say Mark Potter.

Re: Scott Welch
Bet he kicks himself for losing to Francis - it was only 115-113 I believe. If he'd won he could have got Tyson next.

Re: Scott Welch
He did an after dinner show in Bournemouth the other week and judging by those pics and when I see him at shows he is terrific shape. Very rich but his wife still rings my company every year asking for a free annual pass. Gonna get a signed fight poster out of her this year!!
Was that story true about how he got into boxing? Basically he made a pile in care homes and was coming out of one when some lads tried to mug him and he battered them and got the boxing bug and the rest is as the say history?

Re: Scott Welch
I thought it was roughly that, but they actually got the better of him, so he resolved to start boxing - think it was in a BM interview back in the day so Glyn would remember best.Dirk Kelly wrote:Was that story true about how he got into boxing? Re: Scott Welch
Me & my Brother bumped into him at the Alexandra Palace which was putting on a amateur show about 4 years ago. He was in the corner; was very polite.
Re: Scott Welch
I seem to remember he did a couple of them but ran out of steam so he got done by the other two. I realised he was carrying too much weight and was too unfit so decided to go down the gym.Deserter wrote:I thought it was roughly that, but they actually got the better of him, so he resolved to start boxing - think it was in a BM interview back in the day so Glyn would remember best.Dirk Kelly wrote:Was that story true about how he got into boxing?
