Thoughts on Tonight

Post by Carbo »

Is it me, or is Hatton's face looking more haggard and aged in the face than he used to at fighting weight?

He also sounds ever-so-slightly thick tongued. Not as badly as Shane Mosley, but to my ear, he doesn't enunciate quite like he used to.

Neither of these signs are good.

Paul Malignaggi is a superb pundit.

Ryan Rhodes's English is embarrassing.

Ian Darke is still the main man when it comes to boxing commentary.

Paulie looks like Robert de niro playing Jake la Motta in raging bull.

Rhodes is having a bit of a mare.

Woodall and Darkey have been massively biased to the home fighters.

Bloke in studio with Rhodes and Mal is tat (can't for the life of me remember his name)

I had no idea this was for an Interim World title. Did Geale immediately relinquish in favour of a home fight v Mundine? Was he ordered to rematch Sturm or something? What's going on there.

It's always one of the problems with boxing shows that the house fighter gets favoured by the commentators. On HBO, on Sky and here.

Darke and Woodhall are excellent, though, in my view.

Rhodes should be good. He's always been confident in front of a camera, and he has an opinion. But he just can't seem to put together a full sentence of use more than 60% of words so that their meaning matches his. He looks foolish next to the insightful, articulate and loquacious Malignaggi.

Murray is fighting now, against a crude, slow and wild Venezuelan.

My thoughts on the Hatton fight is this...Ricky wanted to come back to right some wrongs and to try and redeem himself after the Pacman hammering.
I really hope he succeeds BUT...what if he fails and suffers another crushing loss? How will he cope mentally and should we be worried for him?
He's had mental health issues and a setback here could see him really struggle with his mind.

For that reason I really hope his comeback is a success.

He was stripped because he had to face Golovkin and the Mundine rematch was the bigger fight because it is going to get serious publicity and attention in Australia.

Malignaggi is good to listen to. Such a stark contrast the fast talking New Yorker and the slow talking deliberate Yorkshireman.

Paul Dempsey is pretty shit tonight.
