He got a detached retina sometime during or before his loss to a young Lennox Lewis. After a short break he relocated to the USA and had two wins over well wprn journeymen but came to the conclusion thet "He just didn't have it anymore" and retired.

For a few years was a very good commentator & studio pundit on SKY TV (UK) for Boxing.

Than had a go at promoting arm wrestling contests, but it never really took off for him.

Last I heard he was involved in security in a London hospital, I think.

I seem to recall in the mis 90's he was arrested for his part in promoting an illegal 'rave'.

Mason ran a shop called ( I think ) Punch & Jewellry after his career ended. I don't think it lasted long

he was an affable if not desparately articulate commentator on Sky for a while ( think he was dropepd for swearing, but I may be wrong )

Not a clue what he is up to now.

I just think of him as a definingly plodding heavyweight with a decent bang who was well matched and involved in one of the great "quit jobs" of all time when Tyrell Biggs went down after Mason smiled at him

I agree he really tried his best that night and even though he lost went up in my estimation, a really gutsy showing from Mason but Lewis was just too good for him.

Mason had to retire because of recurring retina problems that were slowing down his comeback. He made an excellent commentator/analyst for sky because he was witty & articulate and usualy always right.

He got banned for saying 'fornicate' when he didnt realise he was live on air.

After that he kinda disappeared. Rumours that he was a secuirty guard at a hospital were never verified. His 'Punch & Jewelry' store was doing very well until the police raided it believing it was linked to drugs etc. In turned out Mason was completely innocent but instead of returning his expensive stock they (unbelieavbly) sold it all off in one of those police confiscated-goods auctions & put poor Gaz out of business.

I wish ITV would ditch that shill Duke McKenzie ad bring Mason on board as they badly need a commentator who knows what is going on and isnt afraid to speak the truth.
