People within the game are bound to fight their corner, which is often difficult considering how the game is run.
Nevertheless threads mocking them is hardly going to encourage them to return, and their input is often valuable making this forum a much better place with the insiders contributions.
Also Eric is def one of the good guys. He is often accused of name dropping but there is no bullshit with him, just look at some of the pictures he has posted during a lifetime in the game.

I understand and agree with the sentiment, but if you could show me a thread on this (or any other) forum where Eric has made a valuable contribution beyond talking about how he was best mates with Lennox Lewis etc. then I would like to read it.

Also, like it or not Paul Smith came across as a right miserable paranoid self centered agressive nob on the vast majority of his posts - just because he is also a pro boxer doesn't negate that.

I respectfully disagree with both statements.
I found Smith insightful, intelligent and genuine, ok he got defensive when criticised but who can blame him for that? Posters then got quite disrespectful of him.
I think he comes across very well in his commentating role too.
Maybe you should reread Eric's contribution too. He is also amenable to questions about all of the times he has been there and seen it. People often take this as boasting but he has been there and done it.
