Trivia: What journeyman beat a reigning world champion?

Post by Controversial »

Taking on the challenge to come up with a trivia question from Bundana here is my effort.

What journeyman boxer, who had lost his 4 previous fights and only had 9 wins in his entire career upto that point, beat a then reigning world champion in a non-title fight? The losing fighter is listed in the IBHOF.

Sounds like some lighter weight class that nobody much pays attention to, cus this escapes me.

Only man I know who could possibly be the man you're referring to would be Walter Edgerton "The Kentucky Rosebud" who beat either Goerge Dixon or Kid Chocolate in an exhibition fight by kayo.

Not an exhibition and not one of the lighter weights.

Then that beats the shit out of me, cus when I think journeyman at the higher weights I think Glenn Johnson.

I doubt many people know the winning fighter although he fought many big names and held his own against them, the loser is very well known to boxing fans and is still alive.

Another clue, the winning fighter would later fight for a world title and he and Mike Tyson share a common opponent.

You're gonna know this one Bundana. What clubfighter/journeyman was eating a hotdog and drinking a beer at MSG when he was asked to fill in for another fighter who had to drop off the card. He did and and had a former champ down in the first round. He lost but it was blood and thunder before he got stopped.

Charlie Green (vs Jose Torres)

It's past 4 o'clock in the morning in my part of the world - so it's about time I turn in!

Unless someone else wants to have a go, I'll come up with a new question tomorrow.

LOL, I never knew about that. I watched Tim Tomashek come out of the crowd after I assume he was drinking celebrating his birthday to fight Tommy Morrison on ESPN.

Tim Tomashek was a fun guy to be around. Once in awhile I would train at the gym he trained at in Whiting Indiana which is not far from Chicago. He was a happy go lucky dude for sure smilin laughing all the time. Another guy who trained there who was also a resl nice kid was Marty Jalubowski. He fought Chavez for the title I think. He had a million fights all over the midwest here. I think he even fought his brother. Jack Ocallahan also trained there. He got a shot at Matthew Hilton. Got stopped though.

Marty fought Gonzalez for the title, though he fought Chavez (I think) twice.
