It will be interesting to see Gavin v Welborn. Stylistically, Welborn could make Gavin look a million dollars, but he can punch, and really digs to the body. Could turn into a gruelling night if Frankie has an off night.

Jason Welborn is from my neck of the woods so would be an intriguing west midlands brawl. Lets see what happens on the night.

Nice little fight. I've seen Welborn a couple of times and he looked pretty good, albeit at a lower level, but he still got his opponents out early which is all you can ask for.

I don't think he'll get anywhere near Frankie though, as someone mentioned earlier, this should be his time to shine! :bag:

:TU: Welborn is a nice kid, but like Frankie said this is about levels and I see Jason giving it his all, he's a tough, proud kid, but unfortunately for him, he only knows how to fight one way and doesn't have the foot work, hand speed, skill or movement to trouble Frankie, and has hard has he hits I don't think that would trouble him either. I see Welborn taking a lot of punishment in this fight on his way in and not making it past 6 rounds, 7 at a push.

There's another great title fight on this bill aswell, I can't say who it is yet until its concrete but it's near on 100% and should be announced very soon to the bill, it's gonna be the best night of boxing for local lads & titles the midlands has seen for a long time. Looking forward to it already :box:

11 fights in a seven year pro career. How has Welborn managed to get a British title fight when he's never beat anyone in the mix ?

That's the way the business works, everyone wants to own the Lonsdale belt outright, put to get the belt they have to defend it successfully 3 times, nobody wants to take risks.

I believe vassell v Gavin has just now elevated itself to a top all British clash with the winner going on to another level yet again !
I hope it happens after frankies next fight, I have a feeling Vassell is going to take 2013 very seriously and can't wait already.
Gavin in a clear points decision for me !

If you want a Lonsdale for keeps you should have to fight a top 3 opponent each time you defend it.

It's poor from the board sanctioning this for the title, but we're kinda used to that, aren't we.

Nothing against Welborn, might be a good fighter, but in all honesty I've never heard of him.

This year I really thought Gavin would kick on, he's needed to for the past 18 months. I kinda get the feeling that it's not going to happen for him, which would be a real shame.

Really hope that Frankie can fight at least four times in 2013 and really start to push on.

I don't know the actual top 10 but I'm sure he must be close to the actual top 10 challengers for the belt. He is (or at least was) the undefeated Midland area and British masters champ. At least he's being rewarded for taking the area route

That would be good; I feel he is stagnating a bit, he does need to be busy but he has a decent ranking and there are some dangerous men about in the welter division; it must be a real headache for the matchmaker. I'm agnostic on Frankie and his ability to be a world champ - he may do but I wouldn't be right surpised if he was upended.

Thats still only every 3 months, considering his out in January I would like to see him fight at least 5 times possibly 6 next year !

Given how his pro career has gone so far, I can't see that happening.
