Re: Coldwell calls on promoters to join his new 'TV' venture
Coldwell puts on some good quality shows. I've paid to attend a few and for a guy of my limited means that says something. I wish anyone good fortune when they take a risk for themselves and their people. I don't have a clue how well it will work.
The WSB streams their events live on YouTube and it's a decent viewing experience that's free. I tend to think if promoters without a TV deal can get their advertising sorted out and stream their product for free they'll do better than if they rely on subscribers but that's just me guessing, I actually have no clue. How much advertising revenue can you get for ring-post, apron, apparel, etc advertising space if the event is being streamed to x, y, or z people? I'm not sure how effective monetisation is on YouTube through advertising either. Similarly, what about doing a show sponsored by e.g. Betfair.com? If you're getting 10, 20, 30, 40, 50K viewers on the night, how much would they pay to sponsor the show?

Re: Coldwell calls on promoters to join his new 'TV' venture
It's a great idea and surprised they didn't do it sooner TBH.
Rok however are a bit hit and miss, they aquired Jalipo TV who were mega and then shut them down. The great thing about Jalipo was you bought credits, not fights - so if a fight ended early, you still had credits left.
Also for marquee fights, the credits per minute were slightly higher. It was a clever way of doing it for all parties.
Anyway, thats me just going on a bit - I will buy their fights though. Definitely.

plus aswell i think (and i could be wrong) that the BBBOC take a cut off any tv income ? But def a good way forward ...JLP wrote:Coldwell puts on some good quality shows. Certainly sounds interesting to me
Re: Coldwell calls on promoters to join his new 'TV' venture
Sounds good Sky are killing boxing.
Re: Coldwell calls on promoters to join his new 'TV' venture
Are they? Do you think there would be more boxing on television if Sky had no interest in the sport?

Re: Coldwell calls on promoters to join his new 'TV' venture
good idea, intense marketing needed.I send out fighter profile pages for bills, weigh in updates etc try and get people familiar with the fighters +keep the prices down as low as possible and more people 'cos free stuff will always prevail.
Re: Coldwell calls on promoters to join his new 'TV' venture
secondsout.com's youtube channel has streamed a number of events live. Most recently two cards this week from London, one featuring Leon Williams and one with Cello Renda.
Re: Coldwell calls on promoters to join his new 'TV' venture
"Coldwell Boxing felt this was the correct move to make due to the strained relationship between boxing and television in this country at the moment."
What?
I can understand the frustration of Coldwell however televised boxing is striving at the moment in the UK. Even the most avid boxing fan must acknowledge that now, more than ever, the choice of boxing is fantastic.
SKY through Matchroom are putting on 20 live events per yer. SKY also pick up the odd international contest i.e. Magee Vs. Kessler and Bute's last outing.
allegedly will finish 2012 with almost 65 live events under their belt.
Channel 5 gave Hennessy 7 live shows in 2012.
ESPN have given us 30 Friday Night Fights plus they've recently added The World Series of Boxing.
Premier Sports have the exclusive rights to show 1 Golden Boy FOX broadcast per month. Premier Sports have also picked up NBC broadcasts too through out 2012.
Primetime live have picked up the rights to 4 major PPV events plus have given Goodwin Promotions 2 live dates.
Eurosport have shown around 12 live events from Germany plus the Biggers Better Series. Eurosport also show delayed coverage of Sauerland events and Don King Promotions from America.
The BBC broadcast all male and female fights from the Olympics. Even before the Olympics the BBC broadcast some amateur events early in 2012.
Even away from live broadcasts we've got Ringside on SKY Sports, Bunce's Boxing Hour on allegedly, KOTV on Channel 4 and The Fight Show on Talk Tonight. ITV have brought us documentaries featuring Barry McGuigan and Amir Khan. David Haye is in the jungle on one of ITV's flagship shows whilst allegedly and ESPN Classic relive some golden boxing memories. SKY are showcasing Flintoff's boxing journey whilst 5 USA give us the HBO 24/7 shows prior to each Primetime PPV event.
Sadly for Coldwell televised boxing appears to be reaching saturation point. Other than football there's not many sports getting as much air time as boxing.
As a boxing fan I'll watch anything and everything boxing. I'd love to see Coldwell events on TV, but sadly I don't think he'll find a place anytime soon.

Re: Coldwell calls on promoters to join his new 'TV' venture
I've been with my mrs for nearly 20 years. Any reduction in 'relations' is warmly welcomed. It's the same with boxing. This is why I sometimes pray for four-twos on a four-fight card, finishing at 10pmVaudeville Villain wrote:if you’re missus said to you: “I want to cut back on our shagging and make it better at the same time, so I’ll only bang you once a month, but it will be off the hook and we’ll squeeze in three a night”, you wouldn’t be grateful.
Re: Coldwell calls on promoters to join his new 'TV' venture
The amount of live boxing available to fans these days is staggering.
Be it Sky, allegedly, Channel 5, ESPN, streams or whatever - it's gotten to the point where you don't have the time to catch everything.
Boxing might have been more mainstream before, but it is certainly more accessable now.
I think Coldwell's venture here is just a sign of what's more to come.

Re: Coldwell calls on promoters to join his new 'TV' venture
I Understand your point, but having to pay for most of them, is too expensive, you pay for Sky, Sky sports channels, why should you pay for other sports channels on sky, they will pass the big fights around so you end up subscribing to all of them, I would rather have it on one channel and one payment.chad wrote:"Coldwell Boxing felt this was the correct move to make due to the strained relationship between boxing and television in this country at the moment."

Re: Coldwell calls on promoters to join his new 'TV' venture
Sounds like a great idea there are a lot of fights that would make great TV that unless your there or someone uploads which is never the same as you usually know the outcome go unseen.Could be a good stepping stone to getting a tv deal when broadcasters see the views a promoter is getting.Win win i reckon as long as its priced right.
Re: Coldwell calls on promoters to join his new 'TV' venture
Bought Fridays bout via the app Coldwell Television.
Very good, simple interface.

Re: Coldwell calls on promoters to join his new 'TV' venture
I think Dave is one of the few promoters whose shows I'd feel too guilty to get a free stream for. I'll be subscribing, hope it does well.
Re: Coldwell calls on promoters to join his new 'TV' venture
Dave has informed me that a small hall show will be only £1.49 to watch live, if the stream is decent then its an excellent idea, kind of mini ppv, pay as you watch etc.... other promoters should have done this years ago. I remember frank maloney trying it in the pre broad band days with a show from ?Holborn with harry senior on it. obviously in the pre broadband days frank did not stand a chance, but the idea was there.
I hope dave makes it possible to use paypal, would make things so so easier. just think about it...a show for the cost of half a lager.....fantastic.
but how many would pay?.... any guesses?

Re: Coldwell calls on promoters to join his new 'TV' venture
The payment is an 'in app' purchase that takes funds from your iTunes account, there must be a way of adding funds via PayPal isn't there?
Terrific idea and I was sold on it at £2.49 a show, to be told its £1.49 is a welcome surprise!
Looking forward to Friday, main event is a cracker but really looking forward to seeing Liam Hanrahan.

I think this is a great idea, a really good price, and could definitely be the way forward.
If you've got an ipad or iphone, you can either hook it up to your tv with a cable, or if you've got Apple TV, you can stream it wirelessly, apparently.
I look forward to trying it out.

Is this only available via iTunes? Are there any plans to make this available for PC or Android?
Re: Coldwell calls on promoters to join his new 'TV' venture
It's a great idea, hope it's a success. I'll sign up to it providing the price is reasonable and the picture quality/reliability is OK.
I'd like the fights to be downloadable the following day if poss (to subscribers) as well as being shown via the app at fight-time. As I'd like to watch these fights, but don't necessarily want to base my Saturday night round it, I'd prefer the fights to nurse me through my hangover on a Sunday
