I give Johnson a way better chance of stopping Fury than the 6/1 Johnson KO that's available.

Definitely - Fury's potential is all based on outboxing the out-of-shape Chisora. But sorry didn't he have a life and death fight with Tubby McDermott, and scrape himself off the canvas against Neven 'The Tomato Can' Pajkic? Perhaps a better question to ask is - Would Kevin Johnson really have looked so bad winning against these opponents? The answer is surely no ...and therefore how can everyone be so dismissive of Johnson's chances? Tyson Fury is a flawed fighter, and Kevin Johnson will have a field day exploiting for one: Fury's god awful defence. It's timber time people!

Fury isn't exactly china-chinned; he might not be Oliver McCall but he's not Tommy Morrison either.
& Johnson is a big lazy sod who fights without passion & has been intimidated by bigger dudes before. To exploit "Fury's god awful defence" he'd need to throw some punches back, wouldn't he...? Would Fury be seemingly outworked by Sosnowski or outwilled by little Hamer? Over only three rounds I know, but if we're bringing up random shite to back up our opinions I thought I'd throw that in there, as you did by bringing up a fight from years ago in which Fury was fat & dreadful. I think even you might allow he's unlikely to look as bad vs Johnson as he did in the first (or indeed, second) McDermott fight...
Also: Johnson would win all those fights but feck me he'd look gods-awful doing it & would win by amazingly boring decision each time.

I have to give a load of credit to Fury for taking on an cagey opponent, who may not win, but pretty certainly make his opponent
look bad.

And by world -class heavyweight standards isn't a particularly devastating puncher. I still expect him to put Fury over though.AuggieWren wrote:I have to give a load of credit to Fury for taking on an cagey opponent, who may not win, but pretty certainly make his opponent

Ahhh, I'd love Johnson to do it (for my bet) but I've changed my mind after rewatching some of his 'action'. (I really wish his fight with Leapai was on youtube though...) He is just so ponderous, so frustrating. When the dust settles I feel pretty sure he'll sleepwalk his way to another decision loss and pick up the cheque.

Yes. He's the kinda bloke who'll probably watch video tapes of his own performances in fifteen years & go "Jesus, I could've been quite good if I'd've pulled my finger out my arse".
I really don't have any faith that he'll be able to do so tomorrow.

Re: Tyson Fury vs Kevin Johnson: Your view
The funny thing is when he was a 'prospect' he actually looked quite dangerous and that jab was impressive. Then he must have realised that, oh, it's the heavyweight division, there's nothing for me here. Got a fight with Vitali and anything after that is just treading water waiting for paycheques like this.
Depressing, but true for nearly all heavyweights out there.

"There is a tide in the affairs of men. Which, taken at the flood leads on to fortune; Omitted, all the voyage of their life is bound in shallows and in miseries." Are not the vast majority of us bound in such shallows and miseries of missed opportunities and unfulfilled potential? At least Kevin Johnson will have made a few million dollars not living up to his. Most of us are a few steps away from penury. Especially you palooka if HMRC ever catch up with you.palooka wrote:Like 90% of pro boxers or anyone at all looking back at their life?Datsue wrote:Riddick Blowe wrote:Ahhh, I'd love Johnson to do it (for my bet) but I've changed my mind after rewatching some of his 'action'. Far far more poetic than I would've managed, mate. Thank you.

Both in good shape then. Johnson 2 pounds lighter than even his challenge to Vitali Klitschko!

Re: Tyson Fury vs Kevin Johnson: Your view
I predict that Fury will stop Johnson in 8 rounds or less.
Johnson is such a slow starter, throws so little in punches, that his defense will only prolong the inevitable. Fury will catch him on the arms, the shoulders, the gloves, wreaking havoc on the body to the point where Johnson will either collapse or his corner will call it quits. This is a cross roads fight for Johnson, he must do something spectacular here or else he is written off (imho) as a heavyweight anything. From what I understand this contest is scheduled as a semi-eliminator, which means the winner will have to fight someone in the top ten to earn a title shot. I presume, if Fury wins, he will take on either Robert Helenius or Tomasz Adamek, and it will be more than likely the latter as Fury has stated on our radio show (atgradio.com) that he wants to fight in New York on March 17th St. Patrick's Day following this fight with Johnson and since Adamek is Polish and has such a huge following in New York and New Jersey, it would be the most likely scenario.

I happen to disagree, Johnson looked in much better shape than I've seen him in years. Fury looked a bit better physically than in the past. Based on weigh-in footage, this fight may be gangbusters even though I am still leaning toward Fury to stop Johnson.

Re: Tyson Fury vs Kevin Johnson: Your view
It seems anywhere between 95-98% of people on here are predicting an easy Fury victory, just as they all did with Ricky Hatton last weekend. Johnson is being made to seem like a passive fat punchbag in most threads. Hardly anyone has noted just how good Johnson's jab is... but say it and people just want to make jokes that he only throws 3-4 a round. Nobody seems to want to accept that Fury nearly got stopped by Neven Pajkic, who at best was a very average journeyman, barely a year ago. Johnson has the tools pull off the upset. Second weekend in a row and the armchair pundits are wrong, blind or ignorant ...take your pick!
Mid-late rounds stoppage by the American.

Re: Tyson Fury vs Kevin Johnson: Your view
Fury is 24 years old, 12 months ago he'd have been 23 (clever aren't I?);very young for a heavyweight. He turned pro at 20 year old without massive amateur exerience. He's doing fine, as is Price; they're both very good prospects who should continue to do well and earn good money. If Fury boxed Pajkic again I doubt he'd get touched. The man is improving; we are lucky in the UK that we have some good heavyweights, some on the way up and some on the way down. i don't understand why people have to knock one or the other, it is better now for us fans than it was 3 or 4 years ago. It's a good tme to watch heavyweight boxing - there will be some good scraps, we'll be entertained, there will be some upsets and we'll have lots to comment on.Datsue wrote:Snarky one-note fvckwit.polecateddy wrote:It seems anywhere between 95-98% of people on here are predicting an easy Fury victory, just as they all did with Ricky Hatton last weekend.
