Another cricketer hit with the silly stick!

Post by Brute »

Come Friday night former English all-rounder Andrew "Freddie" Flintoff ( who will be 35 next month) steps into the ring in Preston, UK, for a four rounder with 23 year old Oklahoma heavyweight Richard Dawson, who has won both of his fights so far with one KO.

What next?

Freddie claims his ring debut is no gimmick but in this article below, it seems to be a bit of a publicity stunt (read "dash for cash") and to promote a TV show, he is now involved in. Things must getting a tad boring not rolling the arm over anymore and subsequently commentating on darts, a TV sport for insomniacs.

Interesting there's only one newspaper (Daily Mail, 'newspaper') that has bothered to actually interview Flintoff's opponent for this.

Maybe they had to go all the way to Oklahoma to find a boxer desperate enough to fight Freddie.

Getting a yank over is just international flavoring. There would be no shortage of UK heavies who could punch Freddie's lights out real quick.

First ever fight and he did OK. He isn't going to set the boxing world alight but he can improve and crack on from here for sure. Dawson was absolutley woeful - why did we expect anything else.

The only punch Dawson landed put Flintoff on the canvas. Freddie won it handily enough, as you always say Brute - midwest boxing is in place instead of dole money.

This guy was that bad and yet he dropped Freddie? Perhaps he should look at having a crack at one of the T20 comps to make a buck boxing is not for him!

I think Dawson was paid extra not to try too hard Craig, as soon as Dawson had put Flintoff
on the deck - he went straight back into his shell. Flintoff did OK for a complete and utter
novice but Dawson was paid to hold back I would say. Here is the fight, judge for yourselves.

The lager louts in the audience will think Freddie is a world beater, but he was pretty woeful in the video and the Yank did not do much pressing the fight. Freddie reallly needs to do something about that pawing right hand.

Only future for the likeable Feddie is a novelty bout with some one like Quade Cooper for charity and then hang'em up!

Wasn't a bad left hook Dawson got Flintoff with. You would have thought he would have gone on with it.

I think the opinion of british boxing fans (including mine) is that this is a farce, and if you check out the british forum most brits there (including me) are a little shocked to how they BBBC have granted him a licence.

About the fight, Freddie would even struggle to win a British regional title, let alone a country or the actual british title. Dont worry, he will be wheeled out against a really bum as the support act to a mediore card in order to raise ticket sales!! In summary, WALK AWAY - NOTHING TO SEE HERE!!!
