Haha, quality. I find it hard to understand how anyone can be that bad, I'd be too embarrassed to climb in the ring if I punched like that

Pleased Freddie won he's a nice guy but he wasnt very good. He has a wide "Bambi on Ice" style stance and threw bizzare slappy, elbow driven right hands. If he wants to carry on and fight any BBBoC liceneced Heavyweight that isnt reading from a script he has a lot of work to do. The refs scorecard doesnt surprise me as it was Phil Edwards reffing so anything could have happened. The only possible excuse he could have given is that he scored the Freddie knock down round a 10-9 to dawson as Flintoff dominated the action. For Some sanctioning bodies (IBF etc) a knock down round has to be scored 10-8 regardless but i dont think this is the case with the BBBoC.

I have been explaining to casual fans for weeks that despite our mocking of big Aud, he'd ice Flintoff in a round. Having seen the way Freddie has transitioned to the ring, I have to readjust my Audley prediction. It would be inside 20 seconds. Awful affair, I thought it could do some good for boxing but I stand entirely corrected.

Within a bout 20 seconds I would of thought, as soon as something lands, especially with his wide stance

If it is an 'indisputable fact' then why did it need to be proved.

Maybe because the tabloids lie and make Flintoff out to be something he is not.

Last night shows how hard Woodhouse trained and applied himself; Flintoff was an elite cricketer and is a big, strong, fit and game lump but cannot box. Woohouse was a top class footballer and became a decent boxer before he turned pro, (he's a good boxer now). I think that to do anything professionally you have to show some ability/quality of work.

Quite honestly, any comparison of Woodhouse and Flintoff would be pointless and quite honestly disrespectful to the graft and continued desire shown by Curtis. Freddie is a novelty act, Woodhouse is a boxer who has earned the respect of many cynics. Flintoff doesnt have the scope, time, or ability to do that. He did show heart and it was commendable to an extent, but its overshadowed for me by the fact his opponent threw less than I did while watching it.

I agree; it is a bit like comparing apples and pears; I do think though, novelty or not, the rudiments of a sport ought to be mastered before you get paid to demonstrate them.

I read that it was because in the knockdown round, the ref thought Freddie did well enough to make it a 10-9 loss rather than 10-8.

Hats off to Freddie, he had the balls to do what a lot of people simply couldn't. Yes he was raw, but he was aggressive and without a doubt won the fight.

I think the comparison with Woodhouse were good, because it showed how well Curtis has done. Also good to see Curtis get some positive press. Heard him interviewed on Five Live too and he came across really well.
Likewise, there was a big crowd in when Vassell fought Heffron. I'm sure they preferred that to boxing at a leisure centre in from of 800-1,000 people

first the guy showed how your meant to act when your a pro sportsman, his dieting and getting in the ring in great shape, training day in day out, doing it how it should be done, and having the balls to get in the ring and do it has my respect. my question is do you realy believe that wasnt fixed b4 hand, that his opponent knew exactly why he was here? secondly do you not agree his standard was that of say a whitecoller fight...a bad one; and the board should be ashamed to of said that was a sanctioned pro fight? and third, will he box on??

For guys with less than 5 pro fights who aren't former amateur stars I have seen lots of worse opponents. Guys who don't even throw a punch and get stopped with the first brushing punch that the guy lands.

Freddie Should never had been given a licence. It devalues the sport.

Not as much as some of the opponents that get flown in from Eastern Europe - cue David Price's early career

I think he did it by accident. Either that or, as said, overestimated Freddie's chin. He did not even follow up.

One thing occurred to me in all of this. As other posts mention, Flintoff has at least put in all the hard graft & dieting etc that's required to be a fighter. So he deserves credit for that. But what if he'd showed this kind of commitment & discipline when he was still playing cricket? Would he still be playing for England now?

I understand he had knee problems etc, but it's not like boxing doesn't put any pressure on the knees, and he managed all the training for that. And now there's 3.5 stone less pressure on them.
