Price looked vulnerable
Price looked vulnerable
Before last night against Skelton, I thought price would go all the way. Now I'm not so sure.
At times defensively Price looked very vulnerable and Lacks head movement. I now thinks he will possibly get exposed by anyone even approaching world class.

Re: Price looked vulnerable
It will be interesting to see how he reacts when clocked by a big punch. His sheer size, weight and power make him a dangerous opponent but until he has been in a war its hard to say how far he will go. Saying that Fury's chin isn't too great.cutsman wrote:Before last night against Skelton, I thought price would go all the way. Now I'm not so sure.

Re: Price looked vulnerable
I dont think it really matters how good his head movement is. As long as he keeps them at the end of that long jab. Setting them up for a booming right hand. I'm liking the fact he is just destroying people. It really erks me when you have to ask questions. But if he is getting british level opposition out of there in quick time. Then he is ready for euro/world class.
He is comming along nicely :)

Re: Price looked vulnerable
I know what you're saying but something you have to take into consideration is that world class boxers seldom expose themselves in the way Skelton did. He rushed Price on a wing and a prayer hoping to hit the jackpot by being rough, swinging from the stands and putting faith in his chin. All the signs of a desperate, yet brave man with little hope of winning. The hail Mary approach.cutsman wrote:Before last night against Skelton, I thought price would go all the way. If I were Price, I'd pray to the Gods of boxing that every opponent I faced from this point forward rushed me in that fashion. If they did he'd be the unified champ in no time.
David should have wrapped Skelton up better than he did, though, and he needs to work on that. There's an art to spoiling/holding on and he hasn't got it down just yet.
Re: Price looked vulnerable
All valid points there. My concern was the amount of times he was caught by Skelton using those rushing tactics.JLP wrote:I know what you're saying but something you have to take into consideration is that world class boxers seldom expose themselves in the way Skelton did. I agree and if there's one lesson from the last 15-20 years of the HW division it's that these behemoths need to be well versed in that particular art.JLP wrote:I know what you're saying but something you have to take into consideration is that world class boxers seldom expose themselves in the way Skelton did. Re: Price looked vulnerable
Cutsman, he was caught a good few times, you're quite right. That's why I think he needs to work on spoiling. Every time Skelton clipped him he was right on David's chest and just winging the shots in. He shouldn't have been allowed to throw anything from that position i.e. Price should have enveloped him and just clung on till the ref broke them up. Trying to in-fight is too risky for Price unless he's boxing a guy of similar stature e.g. Fury or the brothers. So I do agree with you to a point but I think the flaws can be put right and, like I said above, I think it's highly unlikely his opponents from this point forward will fight with Skelton-like desperation, unless it's getting really late in the fight and they're way down on the cards.
Re: Price looked vulnerable
I honestly believe he was shocked by the way skelton started, after that fluster he did get his hands up and keep his range with the jab, be interesting to see his American debut !
I also believe he lacked motivation for Skelton, he needs to take a leaf out of Carl froch's book and be 100% ready for anyone. I do have a feeling price will touch down once he starts meeting real contenders, the question is does he get up and will those massive legs still be strong ?
Oh and by the way if Maloney is going to increase his offer to fury by £150k every time price fights the fight won't happen until It at least hits £1M !

Re: Price looked vulnerable
Frank was pretty much right with what he said you get for fighting a Klitschko. It's decent money but Price vs Fury can be built to ensure both men get substantially more than if they boxed either Vitali or Wladimir (now or in the next 9/10 months). The fight will happen. Both men want it but they, rightly, want it to result in them being paid a mortgage busting, set yourself up for life sort of purse.jessi wrote:Oh and by the way if Maloney is going to increase his offer to fury by £150k every time price fights the fight won't happen until It at least hits £1M !
Re: Price looked vulnerable
Yes I do agree, if price and fury could make a million by the end of next year fighting each other it would be great, but one of them has to loose and that could put them way back in line for a world title shot. It's a gamble either way and as much as I believe fury fancies it I don't think Mick hennesey does ! His thinking when we loose to wladimir will can still do the price fight but not visa versa.JLP wrote:Frank was pretty much right with what he said you get for fighting a Klitschko. I think the fight may happen just to pad Price's record, after Fury is crushed and humbled tonight ...and then comes back looking like the pillsbury doughboy!

Re: Price looked vulnerable
To be fair to Fury he took the chisora fight and risked the "0" without too much fuss. I don't think a loss would necessarily be that damaging for them either, depending of course on the nature of the defeat - Chisora's done pretty well out of some credible losing performances.
Re: Price looked vulnerable
I'm not so sure. Don't forget that Chisora fought Vitali after he'd lost to Fury and Helenius! I think they should make the domestic showdown into a huge event next year and then step up. Providing neither man is humiliatingly crushed by the other, they can both push on. Two brothers and an armful of belts, although I think Vitali's may be vacated before the end of next year.jessi wrote:Yes I do agree, if price and fury could make a million by the end of next year fighting each other it would be great, but one of them has to loose and that could put them way back in line for a world title shot. I think everyone was shocked, not just David Price - by fatty bum bum's sprinting in battle !

Re: Price looked vulnerable
Good thread this. I also think Price was caught off guard by Skeltons tactics and believe it or not I think his stock may have even gone down slightly IMO (strange has he actually stopped him in 2). Price v Fury is a genuine 50/50 in my eyes right now. Be interesting to evaluate this match up again after seeing Fury this evening. My opinion may be swayed again. Would like to see how Price would fair against Chisora too.

Re: Price looked vulnerable
Nah, I suspect when Fury is deposited in a large heap later today, that Price/Fury will look more like 85/15.
Re: Price looked vulnerable
Fury s boxing the better man tonight and has shown more versatility than Price, who is far more powerful than Fury. Price weren't rocked by Skelton but he knew he'd been caught, the finish was good. Fury gets a lot of grief for the men he boxes but Price says he will box better next year - Chisora was mentioned; Fury has beaten Chisora already - is Fury in front of Price with regards to quality of opposition?

Re: Price looked vulnerable
Fury v Price would be massive even now. I don't think a defeat in that contest is the end of the world for either of them.
The loser has time to come back the same way Klitschco did when he lost a few.

Re: Price looked vulnerable
Skelton was always going to make it messy but once Price got his measure it was easy pickings. I just think it was an unnecessary match and Price deserves better opposition than this now. Thompson's a step in the right direction and be interesting to see how Fury does tonight. Big domestic clash in the summer would be great.

Yeah ok we get it you are backing Johnson to win. Saying it loads of times doesn't mean you'll get more credit if it happens.polecateddy wrote:Nah, I suspect when Fury is deposited in a large heap later today, that Price/Fury will look more like 85/15.

good post my friend, if fury does a job on kingpin tonight then he is way ahead of price. if kingpin beats fury on points then expect price to fight fury next. if fury gets stopped he will never fight price!!palooka wrote:Fury s boxing the better man tonight and has shown more versatility than Price, who is far more powerful than Fury. Price has the potential to win the world championship but he does still have things to work on. One of these things is smothering/spoiling call it what you will. I can't speak for anyone else but I want him to master that side of his game, I certainly wouldn't criticise him for using such tactics let alone suggest he was "scared to fight".the truth wrote:You guys make me laugh , if he had held you would of all whinged saying he was scared to fight or terrified of getting hit, price is world class end of

Re: Price looked vulnerable
Price did look vunerable last night.
For me the problem is. Price hasn't really fought anyone that remotely tested him. How will he react when that happens? Not just his chin, but his game plan. What will happen when he gets in to deep water, instead of the paddling pool he's been in so far?
