Fury v Price - have the odds narrowed?

Post by Kilburn »

The Skelton fight seems to have served up some new doubts about Price, while Fury has just put in a career best performance over 12 rounds.

Given the suspicion that Price may be found wanting in the whisker department, while Fury is looking fit, loose and sharper than ever - has this match now become a legitimate shoot-out or does your view remain unchanged?

I've always picked Fury and I ain't changoing my mind after this weekend.

Fury has a great learning fight, Price has another mismatch.

Thank you! A man who knows his boxing. Fury, under the tutelage of Uncle Peter, just put in pretty much the exact performance I hoped for and, if I'm honest, anticipated. I've always thought Price will win when the two meet and I've not changed my mind on that but I do think it will be a tremendous fight. I'm really looking forward to it.

Lennox Lewis fought a guy called Dan Murphy and a guy called Ossie Ocassio, they both went the distance and got booed. They are called learning fights. That's what Fury had tonight. He couldn't make Johnson punch back.

Fury put in a fantastic performance against a world class heavyweight. He didn't allow
Johnson to motor and dominated. Price? Don't think he will get past European level. He
is strong and can punch but he is vulnerable. You can't train a bad chin and he has got
one.

Um, let's not forget that Fury was running scared of Price for a reason.

Fury has improved somewhat but as soon as Price lands it's Goodnight Vienna. Who knows when or if this fight happens now. I guess the ball is in Fury's court...

I don't think they will fight anyway, someone will 'Goodnight Vienna' Price first.

He was against an opponent with a strong record but not against a strong performance, part of that is because Fury made it difficult, part was because he was at 3 weeks notice.

Price also has a difficult task in his next fight if Thompson comes off but he seems to have a stiffer jab and more power than Fury which would add up to enough for him to win. I really just think they should get this on.

Is he?
Is he running scared of Price? Well, Fury gave up his British title so he didn't have to fight Price. So, yes basically.

Running scared or holding out until the pay day is 10-20 times what it would've been 12 months back? Almost certainly the latter.

From what I've gleaned from various forums, I think the odds would've narrowed even more if Fury had instead stopped Skelton, Harrison, or Sam Sexton.

Probably the purse bids were crap like they tend to be for British title fights, I am sure when the
money is right that they will fight. It is like the 'Fury didn't knock down Price as an amateur'
when the facts are he did, there is no basis in truth that Fury is scared of Price.

I have to say that Fury giving up the British title when he did was the sensible thing to do at the time.

Would he do it if he were in that position now? I'm not so sure he would.

What the hell was up with Fury pissing about wiping his nose 99 times every round. I think he wiped and blew his nose more often during the fight than Johnson threw a punch.

Funny how everyone agreed at the time it was pretty obvious Fury wanted nothing to do with Price, but now Fury turns in a decent performance everything's changed.

Fury (and more crucially his team) didn't want any part of Price then. That's the point. Everyone close to both guys knew the fight would pay huge dividends down the line, not then -- in spite of what may have been voiced publicly.

And also now it looks like Fury can pull the trigger quick enough to land a decent punch on Price's chin. This certainly didn't look the case a year ago.

I didn't agree - look back at my posts, I think it is an asssine suggestion that Fury is ducking Price out of fear.

He's very respectful (read: scared to death) of this uncle and does precisely what he's told in the gym, out of the gym, and in the ring. The work is paying off.

I'm sure Fury would fight anyone but management have decided a different route to the top- makes sense

The longer the two hold back unbeaten the more $ the fight makes when they get round to it

I wasn't saying you in particular. I don't even remember Fury's team putting the 'this one will be bigger down the line' angle on things, they didn't seem to be saying much about Price at all when the matchup was mooted. That's all I was saying and tonight's result doesn't change the past. They might fancy it a bit more now of course, but anyway, the result of this poll is pretty conclusive, the vast majority are still going for Price by KO :TU:
