Martin Murray vs Sergio Martinez April 27th
In Argentina! Tough fight, big opportunity . I hope it happens for him after the Chavez Jnr fight fell through
Re: Martin Murray vs Sergio Martinez April 27th
good fight. like winky wright, martinez seems to be cleaning out britain (richard williams twice, adrian stone, macklin, barker).
i predict murray will give him a tough fight. i look forward to it.

Re: Martin Murray vs Sergio Martinez April 27th
Another 11th round ko for Martinez??
Re: Martin Murray vs Sergio Martinez April 27th
I cannot wait, saving my pesos to travel to this one, win lose or draw (I sincerly hope for a Murray win), I think it will be Maravillas last hurrah and he will say chausito to the game.
Re: Martin Murray vs Sergio Martinez April 27th
I think Murray will give Sergio his toughest fight out of all of the Brits he has faced so far.
Murray will have to put it on him from the first bell and try and back Martinez up - as we all know the old boxing cliche boxing is all about timing and I feel the longer the fight goes on the better chance Murray will have against the aging 37 year old Martinez.
Darren Barker managed to make Martinez look quite uncomforable and gave him some problems early in their fight and I think Murray has the strength and stamina to contest well with Martinez.
Will certainly be a good fight but I don't think it is one that Murray can win based on the fact he would need to stop Martinez or seriously do a number on him to get a decision over in Argentina.

Re: Martin Murray vs Sergio Martinez April 27th
He could be getting to Martinez at the right time, but it's a tough ask to go to Argentina and do it. I might have a sneaky couple of quid on Murray to pull off the upset by KO, as I'd imagine the odds will be nice
Re: Martin Murray vs Sergio Martinez April 27th
The Barker fight was a terrific performance up to the 11th if I am not wrong and you cannot fault the guys testicles, I love fighters that don't care about the 0 and take the challange on.JayMc wrote:I think Murray will give Sergio his toughest fight out of all of the Brits he has faced so far.

I think that, well I will bet the farm that this goes the distance and getting a points win in Argentina, with Maravilla possibly in his swan song will be like trying to polish a turd. (or dressing a monkey in silk .... for our Spanish speakers).
Martinez picks and chooses opponents akin to the ukranians so I truely believe that he thinks even at 37 and after knee surgery lets not forget than he has the measure of Murray. Coupled into this fact is that he is infront of his home crowd and wants to go out with a bang ......... Martinez on points for me but I will be there fully Englanded up screaming for Murray ......

Aside from having to go over there, I'm personally worried about Martin's inactivity.
2 fights in 2012 and another 4 months into 2013 before the next one.
Wish him all the best.

Re: Martin Murray vs Sergio Martinez April 27th
I think whilst Murray will give a credible showing, I don't see anything in his armoury that is gona trouble Martinez too much.
Re: Martin Murray vs Sergio Martinez April 27th
Im going, I agree i think murray needs to put pressure on him from the start and not give him much space, dictate the pace and not show him as much respect as he showed sturm. Has anyone one ever been over there? what is it like drinking in bars and what not? heard its a bit dodgy and the police are corrupt. What are they like with the english? should i pack me bulletproof vest lol?

Bulletproof vest is not necessary unless you are looking for cocaina or guns in a shanty town (villa).
Pressure for fornicating sure, right from the start is the key for me. It is great when we can talk about defence, Murray has it, in bundles, Sturm couldn't deal and got really pissed off with it, brilliant for me.
Our boy MM can do this job, he will do this job depending on judges, hopefully he can put Sergio on his ass.
I want to be in the England End..... my Saint George and more importantly my St Helens top is folded up in my Argentinian draw, locked, loaded and ready to unfurl...... and it will
Argentina
It is no dodgier than England but you are bang on about the cops, to be honest establishment here will not like us shouting and screaming. Expect shit. The people are totally amazing to be fair and my advice if you are coming is to spend time here and enjoy, treat it like a different spanish resort with the same rules applied. You fornicate around, you will get fucked. But I will be with you in the VIP area so we might be OK!! Seriously I cannot wait for this!

Out of interest do you know who was the last Englishman to fight in Argentina? and do they hate the English due to the Falkland Islands?
Re: Martin Murray vs Sergio Martinez April 27th
Good point that mate, especially when you'll be there with your England flags at a sports event, things could get hostile!Final round wrote:I'm sure Murray can give it a good gomacaca wrote:P4P#1 wrote:Im going, I agree i think murray needs to put pressure on him from the start and not give him much space, dictate the pace and not show him as much respect as he showed sturm. Re: Martin Murray vs Sergio Martinez April 27th
Martinez is a great fighter & his best days were at l. Middle which he could still make if mayweather wanted it.
I think Martinez is there for the taking & got really hurt in his last fight. I'm not saying he will lose but Murray will give him a scare alright

Re: Martin Murray vs Sergio Martinez April 27th
Martinez late stoppage. He will grind Murray down for most of the fight and finish him.

I'm sure he will be ready, Martin is great at pressure never leaves people alone on them constant with clever pressure, I think he only showed Sturm a little respect early then once he had a look he made him work hard for his draw but now he had a taste at world championship level now also he hungrier he wants and need this more than Martinez!!!
I'm not sure Martinez will not like the pressure or strength of Martin who is strong as an ox and when he lets his hands go he is very accurate with good hand speed and array of shots!!
Re: Martin Murray vs Sergio Martinez April 27th
I know mate thats what i mean, i wouldnt stand off the first few rounds like he did with sturm, i reckon get straight on him as he wont expect it, Martinez will be under a lot of pressure to perform with it being his first fight there in some time, Whatever happens i,ll be shaking like a shitting dog come fight night. How you think there gonna prepare for the heat over there?matko wrote:P4P#1 wrote:Im going, I agree i think murray needs to put pressure on him from the start and not give him much space, dictate the pace and not show him as much respect as he showed sturm. Re: Martin Murray vs Sergio Martinez April 27th
No doubt that Murray will do himself proud but I see nothing other than a boxing lesson from Sergio here.
Martinez, is highly regarded as top 5 P4P and possibly top 3. I don't see Murray ever getting that high but obviously he has a chance based on his Sturm performance.
Another factor is the time out of the ring for Martin and I'd think another outing before this fight, risking injury, is not on the agenda.

Re: Martin Murray vs Sergio Martinez April 27th
He may not of been fighting regular as he struggled to get bouts and he wanted top class opposition aswell when he got offered Sturm he jumped at it and same again. He is a true professional who is always in the gym and always learning, sparring, improving etc the best is yet to come. It's a huge step up but not impossible remember honeyghan vs curry or randy Turpin vs sugar ray Robinson both who was perceived as pound for pound champion? Also forgotten here is Oliver is 1 of the best coaches at technique and tactics great teamScottDetonator wrote:No doubt that Murray will do himself proud but I see nothing other than a boxing lesson from Sergio here.

and it went a round. Lloyd Honeygan was pencilled in for a world title shot again
Jorge Castro in Mar del Plata back in the 1990's but it was called off.
I love Argentina, great people, as a British person you would have no problems but
this fight will be hyped to the heavens and there will be a lot of undesireable types
at the fight ready to kick off and take the place apart if their man loses to a pirata.

If you are going - be careful! Outside the fight, enjoy the country and eat a 'lomito'

Luna Park - it will be an electric atmosphere but if you are going to be visibly vocal and English
- be very careful. There will be plenty of a certain demographic who will just hate you for breathing.
And I am sure they will be singing (and jumping) to El Que no Salta un Ingles
