i know a couple of pull outs but sky putting all their eggs with matchroom has not worked

you'd rather see a world champion defending his title against a taco salesmen it seems.
could (and has) happened to anyone. just bad luck. how having other promoters signed would rectify the situation is beyond me.
should name change to mullet man!

freddie flintoff doesnt have a following! it was a ridiculous spectacle and all but forgotten about. yesterdays news, todays chip paper. to suggest he has a bigger following that all the other boxers is absolute blx!mullenman wrote:thats just my opion randall lad

not sure about deap cards...deep ones maybe? the christmas cracker WAS a deep card but murray's poor fitness (he is not even a matchroom fighter) and purdy's virus have hurt the card.
this year sky have put on two froch fights, 3 bellew fights, 3 brook fights, a bunch of entertaining prize fighters, and we've seen the development of some decent young talent such as kal yafai. cant see wtf you are whining about to be fair. assume you've just got a bone to pick because its sky and because matchroom got the only contract.
perhaps you can regale me with better cards that have been put on by other promoters this year?
price v harrison perhaps? cleverly v karpency? (where the home crowd actually booed their own fighter and then refused to buy tickets for the follow up bum fight that was supposed to be against uzelkov).
my highlight of the year would have been watching a fat paul smith (weighing 175lb) struggling against club fighter tommy tolan in a dire 6 rounder in front of a sparse crowd at liverpool olympia. and that was about the highlight of the card. the lowlight was the bogus stoppage of enzo by IJL.
slow hand clap.
nugget!
Re: christmas cracker turned into christmas hangover
Sky has really disappointed me this year with the boxing it's shown. I remember when each year I could look back to a few British small-hall classics, nowadays it's all Matchroom arena shows and they haven't been all that great barring Froch vs Bute. Such a shame what Sky has done with its boxing output, if it wasn't for other sources showing stuff, we as fans would be screwed.
Re: christmas cracker turned into christmas hangover
Sky dont see boxing as vital sport. In year half we they still be showing?TheCobra wrote:Sky has really disappointed me this year with the boxing it's shown. Re: christmas cracker turned into christmas hangover
ive enjoyed quite a few of their cards. the brook jones card was pretty decent. only thing id complain about is the lack of variety, was nice seeing a british title sort of fight every other week

Re: christmas cracker turned into christmas hangover
It`s a two year project so we see what we are getting at the end of it.If he can get the viewing figures Sky want he will keep his contract and hopefully he will sign more fighters and his prospects will start to become headliners. The Belfast card and this one on paper would of been great but the pullouts they have had damaged them.I have more of a problem with them not putting on a decent competative fight as the third fight on the Froch-Mack undercard we just had two prospects in showcase fights, which wouldn`t of been so bad if Froch was in against a better opponent.mullenman wrote:this is the worst card of the year going to be show by sky

Next year is the key to whether this will work,i was more confident a couple of months ago because we have to wait weeks for a sky show the cards need to be stacked sometimes they have tried and have been unlucky and sometimes the card looks fairly week to start of with.Sky also have the Kessler fight that fight so not the worsed few hours of boxing sky has ever shown.I am going to this so i am gutted but what can you do pullouts happen,it`s the risk we take. The Burns fight at the Excell is a joke and if anything happens to Groves or Jhonson then the card could turn to shit.

I kind of agree to a extent with ashedward, time will tell. I don't know what vxrandall problem is though ? Everyone is entitled to a opinion, especially when your paying. Your opinion is that you seem to be happy with the poor shows and one sided poor opponents being fed to world champions & world title contenders, well that's fine, little things obviously please little minds, but for the wider audience the shows have been poor, Fact. Hattons recent UNDERCARD has been better than all the headlining Matchroom & Sky shows this season so far, in fact the very hard working Dave Coldwell has put on more entertaining show's this season with no TV coverage or help than any body else. Froch Vs Bute = Bute froze & was poor show with Brook Vs Jones = Jones is not great fighter, Brook is just 1 geared and was poor, he has been fed bums for all his fights except 3 max, Jennings being one of his best opponents, and his last opponent, well
, but wow thats some jab Brook has developed
Bellew 2 big opponents have been poor also and not great displays. Granted the lads can only fight what's in front of them, that's why people are moaning about Sky & Matchroom, NOT the fighters, its not there fault, same has pull outs and postponements they can not be helped, that's part of the business unfortunately, I appreciate how hard it is to get 2 lads into the ring to fight. But by sky isolating other promoters it leaves them no back up plan to work with, bad bit of business IMO, the other problem is it doesnt give the fans much of a choice, and its them that keep the business going. Again this is only my opinion, doesn't mean I'm right, but doesn't mean I'm wrong either

I've no bias towards any promoter, indeed I think Matchroom have done brilliantly for their stable in securing an exclusive Sky contract for them. My truck is with Sky - Matchroom just do not have a deep enough stable to be their sole boxing provider - it was a shocking decision. We haven't had a stacked card this season - not Matchrooms fault in the sense they've had a few injuries scrap decent bouts like Selby/Lindsay, Jones/Purdy, etc but this happens in boxing - they just don't have a stable to deal with it.
And don't even get me started on prizefighter.............. :x

There’s a magazine show more often than there’s live boxing. Allegedly channel get stick for the quality of the full cards etc., as well as the picture, but, barring going to a show a week, it is the only way of getting to see full bills. Sky seem to be doing everything they can to make it appear that they support the sport while sowing the seeds for giving it the boot.
MMMM. depressing but possibly true.
Re: christmas cracker turned into christmas hangover
How would the Hearn empire view sky if they were to be booted out, especially with them owning the darts promotion.
As a side the last 4 weekends in the US have had the following cards on primetime...
Broner De marco
Gurrero Berto
Cotto Trout
JMM Pacquiao
Thats 4 weekends of solid world class boxing. The undercard scraps werent too shabby either.

I've understood why the main terrestrial channels have distanced themselves from boxing in recent years but don't understand why Sky are now looking like they're not interested.
I don't care what anyone says, boxing still has the ability to host a big event that has everyone talking, so why would Sky want to drop it?
Not disputing the fact, I'm just generally baffled.

I agree I think its odd for something that has so many sports channels to be moving away from boxing, what else is there to show on 4 sports channels between 8 and 12 at night, or even 3 until 5 in the morning?milpool wrote:I've understood why the main terrestrial channels have distanced themselves from boxing in recent years but don't understand why Sky are now looking like they're not interested.

Most of my mates I would not say are big boxing fans but if it is on 4 weekends in a row I would guess that almost all would tune in for at least 2 and many the full 4 when in, and most of the local pubs round here would put it on, so I am surprised that viewing figures for it are by what I read online pretty poor.

I think it would do them the world of good in PR terms to come on here (or equivalent) and answer some questions...sweetscience wrote:so i find it strange they arnt interested

Couldn't agree more, I just can't see that happening though. It's so sad really, allegedly has been good in my opinion but their domestic output could still be upped a touch, I'd love to see them work with Coldwell, Fearon, Jeffries, etc and more with Johnson and Woods. I know some of these guys are holding out for Sky but that's not gonna happen IMO.dondada wrote:I think it would do them the world of good in PR terms to come on here (or equivalent) and answer some questions...sweetscience wrote:so i find it strange they arnt interested
Fights like Crolla's next bout would have been standard Sky fare 18 months ago - I for one am sad this is no longer the case and fringe baubles and overweight ex-contenders are replacing them on a monthly basis.
Hennesy and C5 are doing a better job than Sky and Matchroom at the moment with far smaller resources and a much smaller stable. You've got to give Mick his props - he keeps his head above water everytime you think he's about to drown
Re: christmas cracker turned into christmas hangover
Totally agree - there is a lot of the Allegedly about the way Eddie Hearn is doing business, and it is all about a concept that has got steadily worse as the calibre of its entrants has tailed off, and three or four proven or potential headline attractions. You don't see the quality British title bouts that we used to get from Sky on a Friday night...TheCobra wrote:Sky has really disappointed me this year with the boxing it's shown.
