Benn would have to control himself to win. the syles favour Mike but he was older and Benn could outwork him.

Over 15 rounds McCallum wins. Over 10, I think Benn could outwork him to a decision. 12??????

I cant see anyway this Benn wins. Plus throughout his career benn acknowledged a healthy fear/respect for mccallum saying he would only fight him or Nunn if he had to had no other options and the money was very good.

The late 1990 version of Benn did not have the stamina, superior bob and weave defence or refined boxer/fighter style he had during his long title reign of late 1992-early 96.

1990 benn was still prone to come out very fast, get tagged and 1991 Mccallum would have kayoed him in 7 or 8.

Mcallum disects him in 6-8 rds.
There ain't been any British middleweight capable of defeating him none would of equalled Graham's challenge

Watch McCallum's left hook one-punch KO of Donald Curry - it's a classic! Benn would have got something similar.

McCallum would've chopped him up at middleweight.

What Hurlock said, basically, with the exception of Randy Turpin.

I think Mike Mccallum wins. He had too much for Ben. Watson put up a good show against Mccallum but still lost and Watson (IMO) was the best of the British 3 at the time (Ben Eubank & Watson )

Two fighters I loved to watch, but McCallum is different class, despite his age.

Benn fights like this :bag:

McCallum fights like this. :box:

McCallum by late stoppage.

First time I've seen an outcome to a boxing match explicated purely by the use of smilies; whilst I wanna tell you "well done", I'm afraid someone from HBO might see this & introduce it on Boxing After Dark, right after the computer game punch-landed-per-area percentage thingie.

stylistically I can see the bob n weave defence Benn had halfway incorporated at this point in his career providing lots of opportunities for McCallum.

it goes a little something like this, McCallum feints, Benn ducks and rolls right, McCallum hits him in the left side. McCallum feints, Benn rolls left, McCallum hits him in the liver.

I could see Benn maybe catching him with the odd left hook on the way back up, but he'd be getting beaten to the punch and/or countered more than he'd land.

and anyway, a great chin beats a great puncher, all other things being equal. which they wouldn't be. equal, that is.

Not true. Watson was given a terrible beating by McCallum, a beating which would have prematurely finished some men, but Watson came back stronger than ever. The basic flaw Watson had was that for some reason he chose to lead in a one dimensional manner with mccallum and mccallum counterpunched him to near death. Watson was a better counter than lead. Although he did do terrifically against Eubanks later leading and really won the first fight.
Herol Graham was the one who put on a good show against Mccallum both were on red hot form and that was as close a fight and great display of technical boxing as Ive seen in a british ring. Should have been a draw really. The point lost cost herol.
Benn even in mid 1990 would have been a test for mccallum as benn had really really learned how to box, gained stamina and learned to move his head, after the watson loss. he actually improved 100% in teh brain department in one year by going out to miami.

credit to watson - he was thrashed by mike but learnt a few things in getting beat. for most watchers he won the first eubank fight, had he got the decision there might not have needed to have been a second match with chris...on such decisions history turns.
