Just reading a british magazine at the newsagent (as you do) and it listed the best 25 British matchups of all time. It would be of interest to do the same for us so I will start the ball rolling.
My Top ten, (remember I am 53 so memory only goes back to the 60's)

Your right Ndou v Rabah should be in there at least in the top 5 I rekon, Still i did my list off the top of my head, I am sure that there are many others I missed I would love to see other lists.
On a different matter I will be off line for a while but I will get on when I can just to keep up with the latest news.

I don't think that your number 10 fight ever happened, except maybe as a gym spar. Paul Ferreri was never anywhere near lightweight, where Gilberto Biondi fought. Did you mean Johnny Famechon, he & Biondi had two fights for a win each.

Mundine v Geale 1 was a Aussie classic, as was N'dou v Rabah

Big Jim West -v- Henry Nissen for the Commonwealth Flyweight Title. Nissen was unbeaten before that fight but Jim was too good for him.

I spoke to Jim some years back and mentioned that. Jim said he got the feeling Henry did not like him. Jim was the only pro to beat Henry, once by KO, once by decision. I think Henry would have respected the little blond Aboriginal.

Sterling was English. The question was about Australians and people who spent a lot of their career in Australia.

Mazzinghi and Dupas certainly were not. Saw something interesting about Ralph Dupas, that when he challenged Joe Brown for the lightweight title the fight had to be moved to Texas because Ralph's home state of Louisiana still had a redneck law against mixed race boxing! Civil rights aside I always thought Dupas was African American, like Brown.

He was very dark skinned. Did you know him?

Tony Mundine V Bunny Sterling 1 & 2 Commonwealth title

I remember those fights Colin, at the time I used to compile my own ratings and read the ring, boxing illustrated and Fighter from cover to cover. At the time i remember the Ring had Sterling the number one contender for the world Middleweight title. they were great fights. I remember a bit of controversey when Ern McQuillen threw a hammer accross the floor to Sterlings camp at the weigh in and said something like "here you'll need this.." naturally the papers picked up on it and it went something like "Mundine attacks sterling with a hammer"

Regarding Biondi and Ferreri, Paul started boxing in 1967, Gilberto retired in 1974. Paul was still fighting bantamweight when Gilberto retired as a lightweight.
Biondi did fight Famechon.

i saw him fight Griffith and mazzihgni in Sydney, Griffith was probably the best built fighter i,d seen since Freddie Dawson, Dupas had the latin, mex complexion, do you remember a light-middle that came out around the same time,freddie Little, beautiful mover, Greens opponent Flores reminded me of him,Dawson,Bud Smith, Jimmy Carter,and Joe Brown were handy imports in the 50,s.i think they would,ve livened the present local scene up, great memories, all the best

I can remember hearing of Dupas sparring with Ron Beekin, who was an amateur at the time, and having difficulty with him. Then again a lot of fighters had trouble with "The Beek".

I was still at school at this time and we did not even have a TV set until I went to work in 1964. Boxing broadcasts were a matter of listening to the radio commentary and using your imagination.

Feeddie Little was a victim of two of the most blatant "home towners" in boxing history, losing a split decision to Kim in Korea in 1967 with two Korean judges voting for Kim while the US judge gave Little a shutout. And having Mazzinghi in a situation where he should have beaten him by TKO only to have the Italian "officials" declare a "no contest". Mazzinghi was stripped of his Junior Middleweight titles and Little won the vacant titles, but it would have still left him with a sour taste.

The best fights that i've seen live would have to be Katsidis v James Swan. That was an absolute cracker. Mundine v Geale was also a good match up and looking forward to the next. Paul Hiles v Jamie Nicholson in the amateurs was a good scrap at Tewantin.
