USA National Championships

Post by AmateurBoxingInsider »

January 26-February 2 in Spokane, Wash.

Will the date change due to Silver Gloves?
And just curious, why are they not doing the local and regional tournaments?

The US nationals are an open tournament which I don't think is such a great idea. You should have to qualify through local and regionals.

Maybe the regional tournaments can be postponed a week so that the boxers competing at the Junior Worlds can do both. I'd hate to see that happen to kids that can win both tournaments.

Yes its a shame because some kids are going to have to choose beween a chance of being National Silver Gloves Champion or The Chance Representing Team Usa at international Events. Luckily our Regionals is driving distance to Junior Worlds but its unfair for other kids around the country. Hopefully Usa boxing will consider changing dates

The new dates have not been set as of yet. The dates have to be set around WSB as well as the American boxers involved in that league will have an opportunity to compete in the National Championships. Contact the National office and they may be able to give you a definite date.

Now how is that??? The Association of boxing commissions have stated that WSB boxers are considered professional boxers at their 2011 annual meeting. USA Boxing knew this was to go into effect after the 2012 Olympic games. On top of that Washington State Law says:

RCW 67.08.002
Definitions.

The definitions in this section apply throughout this chapter unless the context clearly requires otherwise.

(1) "Amateur" means a person who has never received nor competed for any purse or other article of value, either for expenses of training or for participating in an event, other than a prize of fifty dollars in value or less.

Then goes to state:
WAC 36-12-200

(11) Any professional boxer engaging in amateur events shall be subject to disciplinary action by the department.
So now we are going to let pro's box amateurs, and let me guess nobody has asked the state of Washington if they know, or if they are going to enforce the law, that is until we have someone get injured.

So now AIAB can tell state commissions what to do??? This should go over really well.....
