Change of opponent for Lucas Brown
Change of opponent for Lucas Brown
Lucas "Big Daddy" Browne has had his opponent changed for tomorrow night's dust up in Hong Kong.
His opponent will be 35 year old American journeyman Jason Gavern (21-12-4 (10KOs). Don't know what happened to Big Dick Towers.

Re: Change of opponent for Lucas Brown
I think someone on here was saying he burst his ear drum in his final sparring sesssion. pretty dissapointing as I was looking forward to that fight
Re: Change of opponent for Lucas Brown
Media sources were saying he had a burst ear drum. However Towers himself apologised to Big Daddy on twitter, stating an ear infection is what made him call it off.
Re: Change of opponent for Lucas Brown
Shame. This would have been Browne's biggest challenge to date.
Re: Change of opponent for Lucas Brown
it still is.
Re: Change of opponent for Lucas Brown
Gavern has lost 5 of his last 6 fights.
Re: Change of opponent for Lucas Brown

Re: Change of opponent for Lucas Brown
Gavern has a draw with Banks (I thought he won the fight) who just stopped Seth Mitchell....he also has a draw with Travis Walker who stopped Kali Meehan.
If you look into Gavern a bit you will see he's got a few good wins as well like Manual Quezada, Darnell Wilson and Rafaell Butler
This guy can fight that's for sure...This is by far the best fighter Lucas has faced and IMO more proven than Towers.

Re: Change of opponent for Lucas Brown
We will know how good he is in a day or so.
Re: Change of opponent for Lucas Brown
Has Gavern been busting his ass in the gym the past 2 months like Browne has for Towers? Or has he just rolled off the sofa to take a payday as a last minute opponent? Either way he will be Brownes sternest test on paper, what type of shape he tuens up mentally and physically given less than a week notice is anyones guess!
Re: Change of opponent for Lucas Brown
brute,
its ok to be wrong u know, pmsl.

Re: Change of opponent for Lucas Brown
Recent form is the most relevant form and this guy is on a losing streak. Browne will probably starch him.X-Cite Sports wrote:Gavern has a draw with Banks (I thought he won the fight) who just stopped Seth Mitchell....he also has a draw with Travis Walker who stopped Kali Meehan.

Yeah he's lost a couple in a row to some guys who are light years ahead of whoever Lucas has faced. Both boys are looking forward to ripping in. Telecast starts tonight at 10pm Qld time on channel 511, Fox. First bout to be televised is Paddy Murphy I believe.

Re: Change of opponent for Lucas Brown
Gavern's losing run is stretched to 5 and I was right after all.
Great result for Browne

Argh! I forgot about this card.
Did anyone watch it? what were Browne and Hammond's performances like (other than simply stating the result).

Re: Change of opponent for Lucas Brown
browne was in control all the way, now i know why i havenot heard of his opponent, hammond won well, his opponent looked like a praying mantis[style] i hope hammonds handlers don,t push him too quick,he should utilise his height, good first up win.A very good main event, the two boys deserved a shower[not liquid] all the best
Re: Change of opponent for Lucas Brown
Big Daddy had too much reach and height and put Gavern down 4 times before the ref called a halt in the 3rd. Basically a mismatch.
Hammond in his pro debut was cautious in the first round but realised his opponent was not wearing any attack well and went on the attack in the second. 2 knockdowns saw the ref wave it off with local fighter looking very outclassed.
Paddy Murphy was robbed in a split decision draw. Paddy won most of the rounds and gave the local lad a good going over, yet one judge called it even and the home-town judge gave it against Paddy 55-59. Ironically this sketchy judge, next took on the ref's duties in the Hammond fight and quickly and quite rightly saved the local fighter from a hiding.

Re: Change of opponent for Lucas Brown
Good on Lucas for the win, although guess I wasnt far wrong with the assumption Gavern would be stepping off his sofa to take this last minute fight. Given he came in at a career high weight almost 10kgs heavier than normal.
However thats not Lucas fault he did what he had to, be good to see him matched well locally still with the likes of De Mori, Haumono, Egobi for example

Re: Change of opponent for Lucas Brown
gavern may not have lasted long, but he probably tested lucas' whiskers more than many of his other opponents tbh.
he landed some nice shots on lucas. but the guy has a head the size of a watermelon.

Re: Change of opponent for Lucas Brown
Gavern's sixth KO loss. No surprise.

Browne showed good power in the punches and looked a lot better boxing wise than he has before.
Garvern is shoyte and what was with all the woooooooooooooooing hahaha, hoping to see Browne tested in his next bout.I think he beats and stops Towers.

At 259 lbs Gavern has clearly gone in overweight and underprepared.N2 Shape wrote:Good on Lucas for the win, although guess I wasnt far wrong with the assumption Gavern would be stepping off his sofa to take this last minute fight.
