Murray/Macklin/Barker vs Benn/Eubank/Watson et al

Post by winkveron »

Murray, Macklin and Barker seem to have got themselves onto the world scene over the past couple of years, constantly being recycled for title shots and giving good accounts of themselves. Murray is now going to Argentina and is the third of the trio to face Martinez. Macklin has had a few shots and is now talking up a fight with JCC Jr.

How do you think this era for British middleweights compares to the super-middles from the 90s? Are they fighting in a tougher era in a tougher division? Or are they a level below the names from the 90s?

For me, Murray, Macklin and Barker are solid european level. I dont think any of them could ever claim to be the best in the division at any point in their careers to date or in the future. The guys in the 90s were true world class.

i think BJS will be the next big thing, murray macklin and barker are quality fighters and very entertaining but i think they may be fringe world class. Id put them in the same category as Sturm. Benn, Eubank and watson were great in a great divison, we could all probably name 10, 12 ,15 (some smart arses maybe even more  )top quality fighters going around at that time at middle/smw.
