There's loads of options after Ricky beats Broner

Billy, honestly mate, wouldn't beating the best-known young Yank in the game be worth a few options? Ricky's got a few years left, surely? Beat the Yank, take the fvcking optioned fights, then go back to defending against unknown South Americans & Paul fvcking Appleby at home in front of rabid crowds if you want to do that. He can spend the last two years of his career doing that, can't he?

Is that not what being a world champ means, mate? & as you're obviously so close to him, wouldn't you rather see him in with the absolute best in the world at his physical peak, rather than when it makes most financial sense & he might be a little less likely to win the fight?

& for the record, Broner's athleticism masks massive technical flaws. Good puncher but I'm not sold on him nearly as much as the Septics are.
Well mate you seem to know better than me what's expected of a world champion, how many have you taken care of again?

They were all legitimate questions, Billy.

Interesting that you chose to ignore them.

I think you two (Datsue & Billy) might have crossed wires here. When you, Billy, say "loads of options" I don't think you mean that if Ricky beats Broner there are a loads of options in the proposed contract that he'd have to fulfil, hence making the fight unattractive, do you, or do you? I think that's what Datsue thinks you mean.

Ricky seems a great guy and has achieved a huge amount but should avoid Broner. Broner looks the business and it could be a painful night for Burns. If he takes the fight, I take my hat off to him.

John, sitting in the pub with you and your brother watching Ricky beating Akaba, Amidu etc in his commonwealth days, none of us could have expected him to achieve what he has!

As Scottish boxing fans, we don't get fighters like this very often. Even fewer that get the opportunity to headline bills stateside (Buchanan and Jacobs are the only 2 I can think of off the top of my head).

Hope they get there arse over there as even in defeat (competitive), more opportunities can arise for Ricky - financially and legacy wise better than the bunny will ever offer!

Ricky should take the fight and take his beating. That's a lot of money.

As a fan I would, as his manager or someone close to him I wouldn't.

I think the chances of burns winning or at the least making it a very competative fight are decent. Id favour broner but not by a big margin.

Thank you, that's exactly what I thought was implied, it's what I always thought "options" in the context of fight contracts meant, apologies if that's not the case here.

Broner looks good, perhaps the next Mayweather, but he doesn't look that good in my opinion.

I've doubted Burns before and I doubt him again. I'd fancy Broner, but wouldn't rule out Burns pulling off the win.

Burns manager not so keen.

http://www.BS.com/team-burns-l ... -16--60548

I don't know whether he would rather go the tried and tested Frank W@rren route with WBO mandatory after mandatory against the usual East European plumbers and doormen or whether he does fancy and is just trying to get an extra £100k out of Goldenboy.

I would like to see Ricky top the bill in America, those oppotunities are few and far between for Brits but when there's so many people in a team with a finger in a pie it's not very often that the boxer gets the last say.

I think 400k isn't that much money for a "sacrifical lamb" to take to lose his title against someone being groomed to be one of boxing next generation superstars.

This is what I think Schaefer thinks about this situation, I know Nelson and Burns will naturally think different (with every reason) but this is why Schaefer is offering quite a bit of cash (its his belief that a dominant win over two time world champion could propell him to the next level) - they have high hopes that Broner can become a huge name, with his skills and his interesting post fight interviews.

While Burns has his WBO title as a bargining tool, he should look for more.... I think Schaefer will pay.

I believe Ricky is technically the best boxer we have in Britain. He's got a great fast jab and I wouldn't be surprised if he cased Broner some problems. Broner isn't as good ad mayweather was at that stage of his career. Ricky's got a chance and he should take it.

At a £300,000 purse offer this equates to £75,000 to his manager and £30,000 to his trainer off the top. Then £42,000 taxed at 20% then £258,000 taxed at 40% means that at the end of the day Burns gets around £75,000 in his hand .Out of this money , I don't know who would pay for sparring partners ,training fees, travelling costs and hotel bills. His promoter might be kind and pay these, or perhaps his manager?
Shocking isn't it ?

Does the fighter get the whole purse which is taxed then pay the trainer & promoter who is then taxed a second time? Thats how your workings have been done, right? Cant see that? Surely they receive direct so its only taxed the once leaving the fighter with about £120,000 from that £300,000? (roughly).

You don't pay any tax on what you pay out in costs e.g. trainer, manager, etc...

Correct. And that's a very good pay day. A guy like Wach will have not got much more than that (after the same deductions) for challenging Wladimir.

That ammount was split between spinks and judah for a welterweight unification fight. Danny Williams got that before deductions for fighting Tyson.

Broner is a class above .

Burns is a great boxer and a terrific bloke from what I`ve seen, but let`s face it he hasn`t been matched that hard yet. The Martinez fight was a quality win, but since then we have seen an ageing Katsidis (who has come short at the top level), Nicky Cook with a bad back, A Norwegian dwarf, two teak tough Africans and Kevin Mitchell.

He has done what he had to do in all these fights, but none of them are top world level fighters bar perhaps Martinez. We have seen before when someone like John Murray stepped up to fight Rios, he was detsroyed, a totally different class. Jennings against Cotto another example, Lockett against Pavlik, Magee against Kessler

Burns is better than Murray, Jennings, Magee and Lockett, but it is all about levels and Broner just has something about him. He`ll stop Burns comfortably.

I`ll be cheering burns on, but I don`t give him much of a chance. There is no way he will start as favourite.

Very true. Burns has always stated he wants to fight the best. He deserves his chance and if he is defeated it will hardly be the end for him.

Fool! Billy Nelson demands that Ricky be able to buy ALL of the houses in Coatbridge!

Then when people look back they'll know he was a true champion!
