Magee v Takaloo - Dec 3rd.
Magee to defend against Takaloo
By David Kelly
03 October 2005
Eamonn Magee will defend his WBU welterweight on December 3 in London.
Belfast man Magee will make the second defence of the belt against Londoner Takaloo, who came to Belfast two years ago and knocked out Jim Rock.
Takaloo was defending his light-middleweight title at the Odyssey Arena but will step down a division to take on Magee on the supporting bill to the big heavyweight clash between Danny Williams and Matt Skelton.
It had been hoped that Magee would have a defence in Belfast with Amir Khan on the bill but promoter allegedly will now seek to put on such a show in the New Year.
Warren said: "I think it's a cracking fight between two men who are noted punchers," said Warren.
"We are just waiting on Takaloo putting pen to paper but I don't think there should be a problem."
This latest defence continues Magee's remarkable comeback from a street attack last year, which left him hospitalised.
Now coach John Breen wants to see him push on towards a higher level.
"We know what to expect from Takaloo - he will come trying to knock Eamonn out but we'll be ready" said Breen.
"This is a big chance for Eamonn to put on a good performance and hopefully this can be a platform for him to go on to even bigger fights.
"Eamonn's world class and with all due respect to Takaloo I don't think he is. I want to see Eamonn given the chance to prove that he can match up to the very best in the world. I don't care who allegedly puts him in with, Eamonn has the ability to handle it."

Interesting one this, Magee isn't a natural Welter and could maybe make light-welter if the right fight was offered, He does have a good chin and defensive skills, so will be interesting to see if Takaloo can hurt him.
In his last fight Magee didn't look sharp, so hopefully his timing will be better against Takaloo.
Think i might treat myself to an early christmas present and get a ticket to this show

Typical, I can already say with conviction I am doing something that night. Probably the only night this year I have ‘booked’ as such.
Normally I would fancy Magee to slaughter the likes of Takaloo, they are simply classes apart. However there are a few levellers here, namely the weight and what Magee has been through in the last 18 months.
Thinking about it, I actually don’t like the fight for that reason, can’t they get him a decent Light-Welterweight opponent? Why does he have to go in against someone who has been campaigning two weight classes above him?

Very very good match up, a little surprised by this fight being made. I would have though Magee would have prefered a few SLIGHTLY easier bouts as he finds his feet following his inactivity - similarly for Takaloo who didn't look to great vs Melis.
I suppose so at their age, they haven't got time to "find their feet".
Applaud both guys for taking each other on.

Takaloo's been monitoring his weight all through the summer and is currently walking around at 10st13lb.
He's never had any trouble making light-middle and has never dragged his weight down to make the limit and people are saying he struggled against Mellis but considering it was his first fight since being knocked out against Alexander and first fight for 10 months, he boxed well within himself and one comfortably.
For once, Tak will be the one coming in bigger than the other guy so his strength should really come to the fore.
People say he'll never be the same after the Alexander nightmare, but let's be honest, I think we can say Magee took far worse a beating at the hands of them fellas in Belfast.
Good fight. Tak to win.

Takaloo cant handle slick boxers look at the trouble jim rock had him in before rock walked onto that cracking punch that nearly took his head off if rock had any power he could have took takaloo out before he got tagged. Magge has more power than roock and good skills if he is right for this i see takaloo in alot of bother with magee taking him out on a tko around 6 if its magee at his best its a bit fo a mismatch imo.

It will probaly come down to who can find there rhythm first, both boxers looked rusty in their last fights, Takaloo had a bit of trouble with Mellis but came through it to win against a tough fighter.
Magee looked as if his timing was off against Vester, but got the job done. Vester folded a bit easy IMO.
I don't see Magee stopping Takaloo, he has shown a good chin in the past, and anyone Alexander catches can get knocked out.
I think that Takaloo's movement might cause Magee problems, making Magee miss alot with his counters, in a tight match i think Takaloo with his extra weight , movement and punch will come through on points.

My thoughts exactly Topper. Tak feels he boxed very well against Mellis considering how long he'd been out and said he didn't really have to work that hard. He badly hurt his knuckle early on too but gradually stepped it up. He said he could have put his foot down and gone for the stoppage but he also said that he needed the rounds and that Mellis was the perfect fighter to do this. Dangerous but easy to outbox. He says he will look to use a good jab and box against Magee. He's actually a good counter-puncher when he wants to be.
I think although there is a size difference Magee won't have any problems with Takaloo, Daniel Santos seemed to be quite a lot smaller than Takaloo when they boxed a couple a few years and won with relative ease providing Magee keeps it sensible I dont think it will be much of a problem either.

I know Magee 'was' light years ahead of the likes of Takaloo, but Magee seems damaged goods most recently. What with that and the fact Tak is a light middle, and a noted puncher, I could see this going terribly wrong for Magee.
I think he could get seriosly hurt here, I don't think he should take the fight! I like Magee alot, I don't want to see him hurt.

With all due respect to Magee, but Daniel Santos is a couple of levels above him in terms of skill, and Takaloo if i remember did knock Santos down early on in the fight.Daveyswan wrote:I think although there is a size difference Magee won't have any problems with Takaloo, Daniel Santos seemed to be quite a lot smaller than Takaloo when they boxed a couple a few years and won with relative ease providing Magee keeps it sensible I dont think it will be much of a problem either.

Ye, he knocked him down but Santos got up and outboxed him comfortably and yes I would agree that Santos is a a class above Magee but not a couple , I just see a similar type of fight to Magee V Vincent - Magee controlling and and holding/spoiling any of takaloo attacks and winning on points.

Nice to see a domestic scrap that could be a really good fight, i still think magee will win but as people have said takaloo isnt a bad boxer and can bang a bit, is magee back to his best or damaged goods i personally think what doesnt kill you makes you stronger and i think magees problems over the last 18 months could make him knuckle down and really apply himself for this one. Should be a belter but im sticking with magee for this, wouldnt like to have bet on it though.
