Buster Douglas had the same reach as Liston. I'm sure soemone on here bargged about hving abigger fist though.
Buster had a great frame for boxing I think anyway.
Barney Ross, nice and tall for a welter, long reach - not sure if he had weedy legs though. I would have said Hearns too with his backspan and arm length but some joker put pipe cleaners in his shorts instead of legs![[icon_e_biggrin.gif] :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)

Of the current crop of fighters one guy that is always in outstanding physical condition is Timothy Bradley.

Also a young Ali, and for former boxers, Superstar Billy Graham.

Apologies for dragging this one up but it made me chuckle. Perhaps the best one post contribution to Boxrec.Jaywheel wrote:overman129 wrote:To be honest, I always felt Dariusz Michalczewski had a sweet chassis. He reminded me of a Polish Patrick Duffy.

I really like the physiques of tall lean fighters like Foster, Monzon and Hearns. But also guys like Jack Dempsey and Tony Zale to name but two.

Can't believe it took three pages of thread for the logical answer to appear.
Correction, three pages and a year and a half. Thanks for saving boxrec from a massive man points deduction, witherspoon.

Call me a cynic but I always unsure about the claims of Liston's reach. It's not uncommon for fighters stats to be exaggerated but his reach is 7 foot wide, almost a foot longer than his height of 6'1". Of course its possible it is correct, maybe if his fists were also as big as claimed his very long fingers added a few inches to the figures as they measure fingertip to fingertip. Does anyone know if these figures are officially confirmed?

I don't know if Listons reach has been officially confirmed, but it looks huge on film. When he sticks a jab it seems to reach for miles.

As far as women boxers goes lol there are quite a few who are as alluring to the eye as they are skilled.
As far as the men is concerned, almost everybody today looks like they are sculpted from granite and built like body builders more so than fighters. But I would say PRIMO CARNERA was at least 70 years ahead of his time, the man was a marvel of fitness.

What is a "fighters" body.
Looking the part and being the part are seldom the same
thing.
I have a lot of 'buff' and solid looking guys with their tribal
tatts, lats and bulging muscles come through the gym door
that barely make it through a warm up.
Best physique is like judging body building its all subjective,
what YOU think looks the best and coolest etc...
I appreciate where your coming from on this Barry but I'm afraid I'm a non beleiver. I guess I would really need someone like you to tailor one of these programmes for me and i would give it a try but I am highly skeptical.
Without coming over all Allan Green , I have pretty much done it all when it comes to weights. I have been 74 kg and benching 127.5kg for 3 reps, deadlifting 190Kg at that weight and it has especially bench pressing hindered punch speed. I have done it all, powerlifting, bodybuilding weights, in my opinion bodybuilding type repetitions in particular hinder speed of punch. Even if you add stretching etc. The only kind of weights that helps hand speed and speed overall is punching with light hand weights.
Too many magazines sell baloney to offer a so called fresh angle and sell magazines.

Hmmm,But,what about Stallone in the 2005 flick,"Rocky Balboa". He throws uppercuts with those big heavy dumbbell weights during the training montage scene. That seems like a good way to build up power for effective body punching abilities. Tyson and Holyfield definately benefitted from weight training, needless to say, quite a few others as well. The only style boxer it would maybe be detrimental is a Willie Pep type style but even that style could benefit from weighted plyometrics type weight training,or weighted vest training for example.
For many boxers styles,Switching back and forth from light moderate level resistance weight training manuevers to heavy bag seems like a good solid approach. Incorporating Weight training(Not bb'ing or PL'ing per se) will help build and support good solid bone density and just the right amount of other core benefits, very beneficial for any sport combat athlete. Weight training can definately enhance Core muscular endurance, another important asset for any fighter/combatant.
