steve roberts..where is he now?
the west ham light middleweight packed up in 2003 - had a very decent career but seemed to fall out of love with the game. i saw him fight a few times.
does anyone know what steve's up to these days?

Re: steve roberts..where is he now?
Last I heard he was an electrician and was running his own business but that was quite a while ago. Very exciting fighter who just lost his love for the sport

I saw a documentary and doesn't he run/own a B&B in Scotland?
Re: steve roberts..where is he now?
I'm pretty sure that was the business he was running alongside being an electrician. How old was the documentary?Dirk Kelly wrote:I saw a documentary and doesn't he run/own a B&B in Scotland?

I agree - however, British boxing as an industry has not learnt.stevieb_8006 wrote:my mates bro fought him, he had skills. always thought he couldve done more. but then, all that lot couldve couldnt they? 1 of the biggest crimes in UK boxing that they never faced off.

Re: steve roberts..where is he now?
I think that beating he took against the Russian I think it was took a lot out of him. Remember watching it on the BBC and screaming at the telly for someone to stop the fight as he was exhausted and was taking needless punishment for a good few rounds. With some of the crap stoppages we have these days the ref and indeed Steve's corner should hang their head in shame.
Re: steve roberts..where is he now?
John Coyle reffed it and I agree Pestryaev took a lot out of Roberts. Getting stopped by Darren Rhodes, a fairly heavy handed guy (but by no means a banger) who was better than his record suggests but still someone Roberts should've been dealing with comfortably, tells it's own tale.Dirk Kelly wrote:I think that beating he took against the Russian I think it was took a lot out of him. Re: steve roberts..where is he now?
thats right. steve had lost his mojo for boxing and was getting clumped by men he really should have schooled. whoever said he should have gone on to train young amateurs - he lived close to the peacock - was bang on. must have been offered

So could you have stayed at l. Middle then???
I think you was better probably down to maturity.no disrespect as I've got massive respect enjoying all your fights from your debut to your last. But against Williams,Alexander,Roberts I would not of backed you up at middle I think there strength wasn't there apart from williams

Re: steve roberts..where is he now?
You're definitely thinking of Fighters which came out in roughly 1990/91. Steve Roberts would only have been 18 then and a good few years short of turning pro. I can't remember him being in it but he may have been and I simply overlooked him as I didn't know who he was back then. The fighters that I can remember were Kaylor, Stone, Flint, Jason Rowland, Roy Rowland, Dean Hollington, Terry Dixon, Mark Tibbs, and Jimmy Tibbs (training). There were a couple of others that I can't just recall but will if I dwell on it.TJ77 wrote:Was it the one with Mark Kaylor in ?Also Bradley Stone featured i think if its the same one.jessi wrote:Remember the documentary (short film) from years ago, late 90's I think, featured Jimmy tibbs and the peacock club. Maybe there was a similar thing done in later years.

It was almost like a short movie, it might of been 90/91 ! Remember Roberts running along commercial rd.JLP wrote:You're definitely thinking of Fighters which came out in roughly 1990/91. Re: steve roberts..where is he now?
Steve is doing the Knowledge. Spoke to him in the Summer.
Re: steve roberts..where is he now?
That would be the film Real Money (1996). Tibbs, Kaylor, Flint, etc, plus Steve Roberts. As I said earlier, I couldn't remember Roberts being in the documentary, Fighters, and it didn't occur to me until you said it was like a short movie that he may have been in Real Money. He was.jessi wrote:It was almost like a short movie, it might of been 90/91 ! Remember Roberts running along commercial rd.
