Re: steve roberts..where is he now?
That film must be really touching for Bradley stone's family as i seem to remember him talking about boxing giving him oppurtunities to be some1 etc.
Re: steve roberts..where is he now?
I can remember an interview with Jason Rowland in Boxing News years ago and after the Stone v Wenton bout. He said that he and Bradley were very determined to do well and make something of themselves and move away from the area, (Custom House/Canning Town) for their families to have a better life; I remember that he said that others around were talented but more interested in being on the town, drinking and drugging etc.manno wrote:That film must be really touching for Bradley stone's family as i seem to remember him talking about boxing giving him oppurtunities to be some1 etc.

Re: steve roberts..where is he now?
it's weird that with the light welters, the top brits fought their arses off vs each other for these sort of titles - dunne, ayers, rigby, schwer.stevieb_8006 wrote:my mates bro fought him, he had skills. always thought he couldve done more. but then, all that lot couldve couldnt they? 1 of the biggest crimes in UK boxing that they never faced off.
Steve Roberts/Takaloo/Arnie Farnell/Richard Williams/Wayne Alexander...heck u could even throw in Lockett and Ryan Rhodes.
They couldve entertained us for 3 years. Damn u IBO/WBU/WBF!!!!!!!
whereas at light middle, we did get a great KO (alexander-takaloo) and williams did take on sergio martinez, and alexander gave it a good go vs harry simon before succumbing, etc. but on the whole the top brits all took their own little route.
i think jamie moore, the 154 successor to these guys, sort of paid for all the fights that didn't happen, vs the likes of michael jones (3rd fight), matthew macklin and ryan rhodes, 3 true classics.
Re: steve roberts..where is he now?
yeah it's a good film, "real money" and the double dvd fighters / real money is worth a look.hurlock wrote:Real money!!!

roberts played a guy out of prison wanting to turn pro but lured into the "real money" of drug dealing by dean hollington, causing tenstion between trainer jimmy tibbs and gangster jimmy flint, leading to a gang war/shooting.
tibbs and flint were very impressive, in improvised roles. flint, oddly, was more frightening in the docu "fighters"
there was a funny scene when kaylor et al have robbed some boxes of booze and hide out at roberts' place, getting pissed & shitting up roberts who's worried about going back to prison.
shame ron peck and the west ham fighters couldn't make a 3rd film, an ambitious project that was i believe snuffed out by the trendy gangster fad of cheeky/lovable cockneys caricatures in the abysmal films of the turd guy ritchie.
Re: steve roberts..where is he now?
I think Darcy was the young lad who was bigger and taller than his brothers; he used to bring the belts into the ring when they boxed at York Hall; looked very young but mean (ha hahurlock wrote:Darcy was you a big heavyweight?? I know there are a lot of delaneys & one was a lump!!

What's happend to steeds???
I thought cruiser he'd of done big things as he looked so natural & comftable at heavy despite being small.i remember him looking class against Luke simpkin in which wasn't an easy task at the time. I saw Micky fight at cruiser & he looked weak & sh1t! I put it down to maybe losing the weight poorly.i rated Mickey he could fight

Absolutely, that whole "episode" was a prime example of boxing shooting itself in the foot. Utter shambles that set boxing back years.stevieb_8006 wrote:my mates bro fought him, he had skills. always thought he couldve done more. but then, all that lot couldve couldnt they? 1 of the biggest crimes in UK boxing that they never faced off.

They could have filled stadiums with some of those fights, if they were properly built up.

I was not advocating them fighting in a building site.
