Who gets a shot above smith then? Can Anderson justify a winning a British Title, fighting on over the hill, shot to pieces Reid?Caustic wrote:A win over Tommy Tolan doesn't justify Smith getting a shot at the British never mind the Euro.avidlemon wrote:No worries, it's all opinions ain't it, i happen to think they're a match up. There's been worse that's fought for a euro belt!!

Did that even get mentioned, after Pac got his head knocked off?Caustic wrote:That was hilarious.

Some twat from the WBO kept thrusting the belt at JMM at the end, he didn't seem all that impressed with it frankly.ILikeBeer wrote:Did that even get mentioned, after Pac got his head knocked off?Caustic wrote:That was hilarious.
Re: DeGale vacates the Euro title
According to BS, James DeGale now has his EBU title back.

Impressive to be a 2 time champion.ILikeBeer wrote:According to BS, James DeGale now has his EBU title back.

I wouldn't be surprised if thats what DeGale starts referring to himself as.jameswilson wrote:Impressive to be a 2 time champion.
Re: DeGale vacates the Euro title
DeGale vs Anderson was very close to being made for earlier this month.
This fight with the British and Euro titles on the line would be tasty. Both men have George Groves as a mutual enemy, both have been beaten by Groves.
Would be good viewing!

You joking!!avidlemon wrote:Good shout.Caustic wrote:Anderson v Smigga for the vacant title
Would they be able to fight for the British at the same time?
Smith gets so many oppurtunitys on the back off nothing. He has been stopped twice.
British title fair doo's after an eliminator with a Webb or fielding. There ain't great comp at domestic level but still!
& only Kenny deserves a crack higher IMO.
Such a shame Sutherland is no longer with us!

Is this fight not back on? Degale c Ndiaye?i like this fight, might be an upset
Re: DeGale vacates the Euro title
Well, it's scheduled for the 26th January. But it's been scheduled since before DeGale fought in December, and more importantly before he was stripped of the EBU title and had it given back to him.Alba wrote:Is this fight not back on? Degale c Ndiaye?i like this fight, might be an upset
If Boxrec is to believed, then it's happening. But you wonder if that was a fight that fell through, that they've not updated.

How come we have blokes in the top ten (top five even) fighting for them now, wasn't Khan's fight at the weekend for a 'Silver Title'?
was. As now they attach a redudant belt to almost everything, I'd forgotten about it after I'd turned off my television.
Look at the recent Pac fight. It was for the "Figher of the decade" title, or some such. The point is, if they are going to attach titles to every fight, just to create interest, these titles will mean nothing.
They do attach titles to (almost) every big fight. And they do mean nothing already.

Strange. See him on Ringside saying he is going the WBC route basically so had to give up the belt.
Slightly different note, anyone else notice that Ringside are firmly in 'team DeGale' when it comes to DeGale-Groves comparisons? Maybe it's me! Seems a tad strange.

They are usually in the camp of whoever is in front of them on the set. I'm sure if Groves had been there, they would have been laughing every time he slagged off DeGale.
I would guess that the mandatory was not happy with the date Channel 5 wanted, or demanded they go to purse bids. Hence they gave up the European title as the WBC Silver belt allows them to do whatever they want (as long as they pay the sanction fees).

Re: DeGale vacates the Euro title
It does to a point. I don't think they ever force mandatories on those types of titles (Silver, International and Intercontinental.) All I think you're required to do is defend against someone who is ranked above a certain point with with that body, I think with the WBC it is above 40.gobbles wrote:lillywhite14 wrote:Strange. Whilst the number of titles in boxing is infuriating I would be quite happy if I was a promoter at the mo. Getting your fighter to a mandatory spot has never been easier I think, as long as the fighter is good enough. Get him above his domestic level, and get him one of the Intercontinental belts, keep defending it. Done. It used to be the European title was really the only title that assured a high ranking with the WBC, now you can pick from 4 organisations, there is sure to be either a vacant inter-title in there or a no hoper as champ that you can angle towards.
