Froch lines up with Beyer

Fight fans will be able to draw a direct comparison between outstanding British and Commonwealth super middleweight champion Carl Froch and WBC king Markus Beyer tonight, (October 4th), with British Eurosport showcasing both of their most recent fights.

The network begins its boxing coverage at 7pm with Froch’s dominant points win over mandatory contender Matthew Barney at the Nottingham Arena on July 9th.

They then turn their attention to Markus Beyer’s successful defence of his WBC super middleweight title against Omar Sheika in Germany on September 3rd.

Given the circumstances of his win, Froch’s promoter Mick Hennessy believes that it will be evident that his charge already has what it takes to overcome a genuine world champion.

“Carl went into the Barney fight with a significant injury to his right hand,” explained Hennessy from Spain, where he is representing his fighters at the annual WBC convention.

“He suffered a ruptured extensor hood in the fourth round of his fight against WBC #11 Henry Porras in April. Still he went on to finish that job in style, stopping a proven top class operator in eight rounds.

“Carl could have had surgery immediately afterwards, but instead opted to get his mandatory contender Barney out of the way first.

“He did that in style, beating one of the slipperiest operators in boxing with ease, dominating him over the distance, despite being effectively one handed.

“That win should not be underestimated; Barney is Championship class. In his previous fight he went to Germany and only lost what many considered to be a hometown decision to European light heavyweight champion Thomas Ulrich, a fighter rated #1 by the WBC – in the weight division above.

“Bearing all this mind, I think that people will be able to see tonight that a fully fit Carl Froch would do a number on the likes of Beyer and Sheika.”

Hennessy finished by re-iterating his belief that ‘The Cobra’ has a massive future: “Carl is an untapped revelation for British sport. He has the ability to transcend boxing and become one of the biggest sporting talents this country has ever produced.”

Some reports have mentioned a show in November, others say December.

Did Eurosport show Marco Huck V Rudiger May? Man that was one boring fight. Oktay Urkal V Maxim Nesterneko was a decent scrap though although i had Urkal a much wider winner than the judges did.

Watched the first 6 rounds, Beyer is still in peak form at 34 no doubt about it.

Froch - Porras was on last week I think, in case anybody didn't mention it.

Mind you, telling someone a fight was on last week and they missed it is one of the more pointless things I've done today...

I saw the fight and thought on the whole froch looked quite good against a difficult opponent, he took a few punches flush which for me says something for his chin and seemed to impose himself on the fight. Also probably because of his hand trouble wasn't loading up and waiting for the big shot as much. what did everyone else think

yep, Markus Beyer still looks good and mastered Sheika superbly.

Although he's sparring with his punches, when Beyer let's them go the precision is excellent. A joy to watch. I often wonder who would have truimphed had Beyer faced Ottke.

By the way, don't miss next week's edition from Eurosport. Lee Meager v Martin Watson. Absolute cracker. Be interesting to see how you guys score it. I had it for Watson, but most seemed to think Meager deserved it.
