Broner v Rees
Broner v Rees
Steve Kim is reporting that Adrien Broner will face Gavin Rees on Feb 16th.

Great fight for Rees to get, and should be a decent payday, but I'd say he'll lose comfortably I'm afraid.

Re: Broner v Rees
After this fight Rees will have a long hard look at whether or not he wants to carry on, I think Rees is underated but I think this will be a 1 sided beating luckily Locket is a smart trainer who won't let his fighter take a beating, hope he proves me wrong

Re: Broner v Rees
This will be a good fight while it lasts. I think Rees could surprise a few. Either way I don't think it goes past 7 or 8 rounds and Broner has the edge.
I feel sorry for Ricky Burns. He should be going in with Broner and I've no doubt he will after he has marred his reign with a couple more mismatches. FW too scared of putting one of his only remaining cash cows in the ring with anything close to a risk.

Re: Broner v Rees
Never saw this one coming - well done Hearn for getting the Rock the payday.
He should be taken out by Broner in about 6 one sided rounds but ive got no problem with the fight.
I doubt the Burns fight will happen now. I can see Broner deciding to by- pass the division after this upto the bigger paydays- the American public will probably call for this as well other hen fight another
''Euro bum" in Burns (although of course he isn't but the lesser informed US fans will perceive him to be).

No one is giving Rees a chance in this?

Rees is quick, tricky and tough as stone. Personally I fancy him to give Broner a few problems here.

I def agree, people are under rating Rees.split_decision wrote:Rees is quick, tricky and tough as stone. Personally I fancy him to give Broner a few problems here.
Re: Broner v Rees
Fair play to Rees for stepping up. Lost all respect for burns after this, its going to be pretty embarrasing when he announces this walsh type opponent for his next defence when everyone knows he ducked broner.

Re: Broner v Rees
I always thought Rees was like 5ft4, a ridiculously short light welterweight who would be short even in the division below. Now he is in the division below he has managed to grow 3 inches (according to boxrec) despite being in his 30s.
Can someone get his dietician on the line.

I'll be rooting for Gavin Rees but I don't think he has a chance, especially since the fight will be in the US.
If it's close (which I doubt it will be) the officials will favor Broner because he's a Haymon-managed, Golden Boy-promoted HBO house fighter.

Re: Broner v Rees
rees knows his way around by now and would be a handfull for any fighter. i think broner is way overrated, and if rees has a good training camp and is still hungry, hes got a chance of an upset.
Re: Broner v Rees
People need to get behind British fighters .Gavin Rees is a hard man who has earnt his shot at Broner.
Good luck the Rock .

Re: Broner v Rees
Gavin is still a very hungry fighter and would love to be a two weight world champion, bring on the 16th Feb and may the best man win.

Re: Broner v Rees
Definately. It is a huge ask, but I hope he can put up a good show because like Eddie Hearn said, if he puts up a good fight and extends Broner he could get some more really good paydays off the back of that. It's a huge disappointment that his European title defence didn't come off tho, he would have been going into the fight off a very active 2012 then, as it is now he will go into the fight having been out of the ring for 6 months.TJ77 wrote:People need to get behind British fighters .Gavin Rees is a hard man who has earnt his shot at Broner.

Re: Broner v Rees
Boner ain't all that. Comparisons with Mayweather are ludicrous, he does not have the guile, speed or reach of Floyd. He's like a big Ian Napa with a bit more pop.
Turn off the pro-Boner commentary and score the Ponce De Leon fight folks. Anyone close to greatness would have pulverized him. He barely won it.

I think you lost respect when he stopped Kevin Mitchell who you were positive would win?rio wrote:Fair play to Rees for stepping up. Gavin will cause the problem many problems beleive me
Re: Broner v Rees
Bull by the horns. This will be a decent pay day for Rees. If he knuckles down, trains hard and then comes out gunning, who knows? He should definitely fight to win but also to get himself more work at the same level.

Are you a little bit peeved Billy, thats supposed to be your man in there. i for one dont believe for a second that you or Ricky dodged Broner but youve got to admit it doest look good ay. i think that once you become world champ you shouldnt have tune ups,if fwank/alex arent as confident in Ricky as they say they are maybe they shouldnt have mentioned Broner, but again i repeat i dont think it anything to do with you or Ricky but the more Walsh/Ocampo,s you fight the more risk that you slip up and lose and dent your legacy by missing out the big fightsbilly nelson wrote:Gavin will cause the problem many problems beleive me

Billy, will you be in Gavin's corner with Gary Lockett for this one?billy nelson wrote:Gavin will cause the problem many problems beleive me

I like the Napa example, actually very accurate in my eyes - although if Napa hit hard, fought in the correct weight class, was kept active and had good money behind him he'd have been a very good world champion in my opinion - all if's and but's though.G0mez wrote:Boner ain't all that. I'd also agree that Broner didn't look great vs Ponce De Leon, but De Leon is a hard, seasoned, world class fighter and he was Broner's first real dip in deep waters. Broner didn't impress but he did win (both on the cards and in all fairness) and I think he learnt alot that night. He's come on markedly from there, many world level guys do after a toughish night when they face their first real resistance or hiccup. He'd make mincemeat of De Leon now in my opinion.
The manner of the De Marco performance show much of that for me. Broner jumped a weight, faced arguably the best 135lb champion at the time (poorish division I'd admit) and after having a look in the first stood him on his head big style, he beat the s**t out of De Marco that night. I like Rees and rate him but I think he'll get taken apart here, he won't (IMO) win a round after the 2nd and he may not win one at all. Burns and Rees are in very different positions and Hearn has done well to get Rees the shot to an extent (and hopefully a good quality pay day) but what happens to Rees may show that Burns not going with Broner was a wise move at present IMO.
As an aside it'll be interesting to see who broadcasts this - Sky obviously deal with Rees through Matchroom but allegedly have a long term deal with Golden Boy showing their US fights.

Its on Sky Sports.
