How Far Would Gerald McClellan Have Gone???

Post by Italian 4 U »

I wonder how far he'd really have gone if it weren't for the Benn fight? He was an incredible KO artist and had the utmost potential. I watched the Benn fight again the other day and I think his brain injury actually occured about the 3rd round as he would wince in pain with just about every shot afterwards. Would he have given Jones a run? I dunno....

Before the Benn fight I really think that McClellan had as good a chance as anyone that has come along to beat Jones, and although I'm a big fan of Jones, I think that McClellan had the strength and size to bull Jones. If that bout would have every happened, I would have beat on McClellan, but that's just me.

I think there was something fundamentally wrong with Gerald that was leading him towards serious injury. From a simple talent standpoint, he was terrific. But from reading "War, Baby" and watching his fights I think that he just did not react to punishment well, even though he seemed able to "take" any punch.

This is an excellent observsation and makes sense. Btw, where do I get a copy of War, baby?

You should be able to get a copy from Amazon.com's UK wing. US members can order from their UK branch, the shipping just costs a little more.

mcclellen suffered brain damage in his 1993 fight with julian jackson.

he continued fighting, and his team kept it a secret. thats why gerald went out to annihilate his opponents from that point on as quick as possisble becuase he knew it wasnt in his best interests to get hit back.

he scored a 1st rd KO over nigel benn but the ref saved him. the end result was gerald was reduced to a vegatable.

Is this your opinion or did you actually read this somewhere? If so, point me to the link as I'd be very interested to read it!
