Who would people rate as Smith's best win?
There's pretty slim pickings on his record.
I saw him live against Renda a few years backs and he looked a bit fleshy even at middleweight.
Paul Smith should be at middle end of. Undoubtedly his best win is over David Banks, who twice beat world title challenger Ayalia. Okay it was only a five round contest. Other than that it is Quigley, he really should have been fighting more regularly and against better opponents.
I think Smith really missed a trick by yo-yo ing between whether he was staying or going at SMW. Understandably he got a few opportunities up there but thinking of the longer term picture there were some good fights to be had at middle and they were winnable. I think that period after he lost to Degale he should have got straight back into the mix at middle a few confidence builders which he had. Then targeted Murray for the British which IMO was a winnable fight for him at the time. At the very least it was another big fight at the ECHO for the British title.
Look where Murray is now compared to Smith not saying he would have had the same opportunities. Murray in the space of 18-24 months whilst Smith was dithering between 168 or 160 went from unproven domestic prospect to British champion to world title chalenger and now has his second world title fight for the middleweight title in the pipeline. Even losing that there are big fights to be made against Barker, Macklin, Lee.
Smith is at the mercy of promoters hoping for a decent payday to potentially win his Lonsdale back.
I can remember Gallagher saying he will get smith down to middle.bit silly as I can't remember the last time smith made it!!
I don't think smith can make middle at all.bit surprised smith hasn't filled out at super middle tbh he has worked with Kayes & snr is a strong solid looking man with expertise in weights
