Asian Boxers

Post by joag »

I was looking at the "Boxers of the Past" forum and came across some of Rover's posts which were fantasy match-ups with Korean, Japanese and Thai fighters.

In all honesty, I was a casual fan and becoming more intrigued. Especially, when I listen to intelligent fans that don't engage in arguments in who's race is better than A and B and so forth, which hindered me from actually asking questions and listening to answers that I was actually interested in hearing.

So, going back to the topic, what is your Top Asian All Time Greats list?

Also, try to include current Asian fighters who are not yet at the end of there career or as a mention and a note on where you might place them in the list based on there current record of work.

Interested in your answers, especially Rover, had not heard about some of the boxers he had mentioned in those threads, being a casual fan and because of my age would have not heard about those Korean boxers at Light flyweight.

Not sure, but the greatest fight to take place in Asia (in my opinion) is the fight between Hantaka and Zaragoza for the Super bantamweight title.

Zaragoza was one of my fav fighters back then and this fight was the most brutal of his career.

1. Harada
2. Pac
3. Villa
4. Elorde
5. Chang
I voted for Harada because he, like Pac, was the lineal champ in two of the original eight weightclasses, and he should've been in a third. He also beat Jofre twice. I really wouldn't have a problem with the top 3 in any order. (Saad has Villa #1 and Harada #3 with Paac in the middle, for instance.)
Elorde had some bad losses, but he beat Saddler and had a long reign.
I picked Chang over Galaxy because I think the comp he beat was better, and I think he was an overall better fighter. He never lost his title in the ring; he retired and (unlike Galaxy) foolishly came back when his wife ran off to the States, leaving Chang with a shit load of financial problems.
