Some food for thought

This Flin'toff' looks to have the thing all wrapped up, i've never heard of the bloke, i hate cricket.

Betting without the favourite though and you can get 25/1 about Hatton. I think he has a chance in this market, especially once he beats Massua and holds the two belts.

My real question for debating here though is....... had Hatton been fighting on national tv against Massua, who believes he could have won this thing outright?

i think its out of flintoff or that sailing woman, i think andrew murray will get more votes than hatton.

IMO, Hatton should get such an award. He made sacrifices for something he wanted badly.

All the training, being disciplined when training etc, they should all go in his favour.

I think Boxing gets overlooked when it comes to things like BBC Sports Personality award etc.

Blimey, Hatton's victory was voted the greatest ever victory by a british fighter ever! That takes so beating.

And also that I'm some-what biased when it comes to Boxing. It the best sport, PERIOD!

But Hatton should be up there in the running.

That yachts woman should not even be in the running imo.
I bet you people like Rooney, Lampard will be up there. Beckham always did well even though he never done that much to achieve it.

The only Boxers with any chance of winning it will always be heavyweights. Am I right in thinking that only Lewis and Cooper (twice) are the only fighters to win it? Ken Buchanan was a better fighter than either. (Well, Cooper certainly). He never even got a mention.

Hatton lacks the national exposure. And anyway, Flintoff has this wrapped up. Murray will probably win the young sportsman again, due to the continuing (and bizarre) fascination with tennis in this country. I'm sure Hatton will get a mention though.

Flintoff absolutely should be the SPOTY this year. He's as far removed from a 'toff' as they come: just because he wears trousers to play his sport doesn't mean he's some kind of upper-class nitwit. The lad's put in a tremendous performance over the entire summer. Hatton trained like a nutcase and did a tremendous job on the night, and deserves a mention in dispatches. But Flintoff's as sure a bet as they come.

truth is, 90% of the people in the country will not have heard the name Hatton and if they have 50% of them wont be able to tell you why.

Flintoff was in the biggest sporting victory since the Rugby World cup and was the principal figure in that series so it would be a disgrace if he did not win it by a country mile. I think Warne will get overseas personality

Hatton's was an astonishing victory, but let's face it most people in the UK don't give a monkeys

'Freddie' is a nickname from his days as a youth playing for Lancashire 2nd XI. Because he ate like Fred Flintstone.

He's a decent lad.

im totally a shocked bty this out of character post, why is hatton a hero and flintoff not, seems they have alot in common, both working class lads who stay faithful to thweir roots despite media adulation.

they are both heroes.

And no im sorry hatton doesnt deserve it over flintoff at all, its been 18 years since we won the ashes and this guy performed more than 5 different times over the series to ensure its return.

Hatotn did it once.

anything else is just sour grapes from one eyed boxing fantatics.

Flintoff does deserve it, his bowling and batting at times was superb.
Hatton should be a contender for it.

Cricket's for toffs..... only the the upper class get started in that sport. Its also as about exciting as bowling.

I think if Hatton had beat Tyszu on national tv, then went on to beat Massua on national tv and hold the two belts, i believe he could have one it. I dont think it bothers Hatton that much though, i think he is more concerned with gaining the respect of the real boxing fan rather than joe public.

Flintoff will win it this year, and i'm not sure Hatton will come second. This is what happens when your performing on PPV.

I remember a couple of years ago that the angler Bob Nudd (could be wrong name) almost won it when people started a campaign to get the most on-line votes for him. I think the BBC had to change the rules so he didn't win

A similar thing happened when I was at Uni, back in '97 or '98. There was a massive online campaign to get Justin Fashanu voted the winner. Ah, the hilarity of University life.......
