Re: Whats the problem with Joe Gallagher?
Ive always found Joe Gallagher to be a polite, approachable fella. I personally like Joe & have got a lot of time for him, he has often helped me out even at very short notice and likewise he phones me, and i help him if & when I can. I also think he's a very good trainer who is knowledgable & gets his fighters in great shape. I like the way he bonds with his fighters & how he gets them to bond together, he is very team orientated, old school in many ways. I don't understand why he comes under so much criticism, maybe people don't like the fact that he is not afraid to speak his mind or say what needs saying at times. Maybe that is why he gets so much stick ?

Nothing at all personal as I fan watching. Alot of fights I just feel he moulds all of his fighters into fighting the same way.am sure he is an excellent trainer with great knowledge I just don't particularly like the way his fighters generally box.

Re: Whats the problem with Joe Gallagher?
It's all about him and no one likes him , he fails at the highest level by training his lads into the ground and in one gear - forward !
I personally have only spoken too him twice and he seems polite but enough people tell me of his other side , people just don't like him !
It's only opinions I guess l he does seem ok and I. Only passing on what people say , I do agree that he over trains and as his boxers like steam trains with no brakes

Re: Whats the problem with Joe Gallagher?
Sometimes its not the fact Joe trains people too hard, its about what some boxers get up to when not training that costs the boxer in fights.
Re: Whats the problem with Joe Gallagher?
Kerry Kayes seems a gent & has fell out with Gallagher but at the same time there is enough ground to say Kayes has an auterior motive

Met him back in the day at 'Champs Camp' in Moss Side and he is a very nice guy. Alwaysbilly bessey wrote:I have read a few posts on here with people disliking Joe and also his training techniques/coaching whenever i have heard him in the corner he seems very very knowledgeable and has given out brilliant advice can someone please enlighten me on his faults as a person/trainer?
had time for everyone.

What would Kayes ulterior motive be? I've heard he doesn't even take a fee from a fighter when helping them?...hurlock wrote:Kerry Kayes seems a gent & has fell out with Gallagher but at the same time there is enough ground to say Kayes has an auterior motive

100% correct and when it goes pear shaped its always the trainer who gets the blame not the boxer

Re: Whats the problem with Joe Gallagher?
every interview with him ive seen he seems alright. I think his honesty my cut a little too deep for some. i think he got a bit too much praise for that undefeated run he was on a while back tho. maybe thats it?
I wish he'd get them moving the head a bit more.

Re: Whats the problem with Joe Gallagher?
Whether you like him or not, you have to give some respect.
It would seem that Joe makes no apology's for his approach. He might come across as determined / even stubborn sometimes, but it's not like he's ripping people off with money or falling out of bars blind drunk, when he should be focusing on his job.
Joe's had fighters come to him, he has fighters leave too. It's the world of boxing. People might have things to say about him or his technique - but he is always working hard every day, driving his fighters hundreds of miles for sparring.
PS - I've never met the bloke.

He whips his fighters into good shape but tactically has no plan B which is fine when your plan A is perfect which his isn't.

People on here love to be fickle
I remember Enzo Calzaghe being revered here, then a few losses and people stick the boot in, same with Gallagher really. It isn't luck that he has had the success he has had.

Training fighters is not a popularity contest.
I don't get why Joe always seems to get this type of press.
He has his methodology and sticks to it.
Not everyone's cup of tea, but so what ?
If the Ingle's took note of everyone's negative comments about their style of training they'd have packed in years ago.
Every stable loses fighters from time to time.
Fact is, it's often the fighter's shotcomings that lead to defeat, often with a lack of professionalism ouside the ropes and the gym.
Who gets the blame ? The trainer.
There's nowt wrong with Joe.
Fighters have options to decide where and with whom to train. If you dont like it, dont join or move on.

Re: Whats the problem with Joe Gallagher?
I also think he comes across as a decent fella so don't understand, just seem to be a few 'rumours' that he's unpopular, a prick etc etc. He seems to me to be very Manc, very forthright with his views and won't tolerate tossers. Who knows what goes on behind closed doors and in business deals etc.
I certainly am not the sort of person who is gona go, "Oh well he fell out with Kerry kayes so he must be a prick". People fall out all the time, who knows why or what it's over, so what.

Gallagher has posted on here & seemed a decent guy.
There is a hatred towards the guy as if he is jimmy savilles love child!

Re: Whats the problem with Joe Gallagher?
Many people find him quite cocksure. Maybe he is a little but I don't doubt he's a decent guy. Slightly overrated a trainer though.
Re: Whats the problem with Joe Gallagher?
Tell me a person on here who gets on with everyone? Everyone has thier haters.
Re: Whats the problem with Joe Gallagher?
Someone said 'works hard' - I agree. It's not easy having a big stable of fighters. He was (maybe still is) heavily involved with why amateurs and what some causal fans forget is that he's not just there in the corner at big fights in sky and in the US he's there in the corner for non televised 4 rounders.
Got to respect him for that. Yes he is a self publicist but its a difficult job to make a career out of and he's probably making the most of the opportunities he gets. You can't blame him for that.
In 2013 I've decided to stop judging trainers because its such a hard thing to assess whether they are good or not. So many outside factors come into play. So instead I'm looking at the positives.
