WBC reward Hennessy Sports fighters

WBC reward Hennessy Sports fighters

There is plenty of good news for Hennessy Sports fighters from Cadiz in Spain, where the WBC is staging their annual convention.

This afternoon, (October 5th), two members of the team, British and Commonwealth super middleweight champion Carl Froch and Commonwealth and European super bantamweight champion Esham Pickering, have been moved into the governing body’s top ten, whilst Junior Witter has consolidated his position as their number one contender at light welterweight.

“So far, so good,” said Mick Hennessy, who has made the trip to Cadiz to represent his fighters at the convention. “We put a strong case forward for each of the trio and every one has been responded to favourably.

“Off the back of his wins earlier this year over then WBC #11 Henry Porras and Matthew Barney, who only lost what most considered to be a hometown decision to WBC #1 light heavy Thomas Ulrich, Carl has been moved to number eight (from 13th) at super middleweight.

“Esham has also been rewarded for beating proven contenders whilst treading the traditional title route. Given that he has recently won and twice defended the prestigious European crown we have been able to get him moved to number seven (from 13th) at super bantamweight.

“The other good news is that Junior Witter has kept his well deserved rating as number one contender to light welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather.

“There were attempts at pushing others before him in the background, but given that we outlined Junior’s recent performances against world class contenders, they came to nothing.

“As a result, Junior will now either be installed automatically as mandatory to Mayweather or ordered to fight a final eliminator against another leading contender – the decision on this is being made tomorrow.”

For Hennessy, this is all part of securing genuine fights for his boxers.

“From day one, Hennessy Sports have had a policy of promoting fights for traditional titles. This goes from area right up to world level,” he explained.

“That is why it was so important for Froch, Pickering and Witter to be given their due out here by such a prestigious governing body. They are all now within a stones throw of challenging for a WBC world title.

“You certainly wont see any of them fighting for fringe titles in the future. They are too talented for that and for me that is not what boxing is all about.”

Thats great news for all 3 :D

I'd really fancy Froch's chances against Beyer and I'm sure Froch would be willing to 'Smoke his Boots' in his home country.

Good to see that Junior has quite rightly held onto his number 1 ranking. I begrudgingly reckon that PBF would beat Junior as hes quite good  , I don't think that there are many that can cause PBF problems, but I think Junior is one of them due to his unorthodox style and if he can land on him who knows what happens. The best situation for Junior would be for Mayweather to move up and fight Judah, so he could contest the vacant title (but hope that doesn't happen because I'm desperate to see Hatton Vs PBF.

I haven't seen enough of Eesh to comment on how he'd do against Larios, but its a very tough ask, I hope he gets his shot though or against Monshipour

It's good news i agree, i fancy Froch's punch power to give Beyer a load of problems as you say but i couldn't see Witter giving Mayweather many problems even early, PBF is superhuman i think the more aggressive Witter is the quicker he gets dismantled.

I was just thinking that maybe a BIG unorthodox Witter Haymaker might make its way through Floyds defence (the fight definites a punchers chance IMO), it is unlikely though because as you say PBF is bordering on Superhuman, however I do think the Gatti fight flattered him massively as Gatti was clueless that night. Fancy trying to outbox him, how ridiculous

I fancy Froch to do a job on Beyer. Last time I saw him fight (Green II) he looked there for the tacking if only Green had upped his workrate.

As it happens I also fancy Hatton to beat PBF, and wouldn't rule out Witter giving him a run for his money either, especially if Witter could get on top early on.

He's done exceptionally well in the lower divisions as well though, I agree that Hatton would be getting lambasted (good word :D )

Well done Hennessy. Shame Warren isn't over at the WBC convention and such like trying to get his guys rated, he's more interested in the WBU and WBO though.

Lets hope he sticks at lw long enough so that we can see how good he is. I personally think PBF beats most light welters that he fights including Witter, although i think Hatton is in a very select few that can potentially beat him.

Good to see that Froch is now in the top 10, been quite impressed with him in the couple of fights that i have seen.

Froch can't be that far of a european shot now, I think that is the one he should be chasing because that will always mean respect and its a title which he can make his own for a couple of fights while waiting for a world shot.

me either, I thought he was with matchroom. Live and learn.

I give Froch every chance against Beyer but a Euro shot against Tsypko would be a great step up for him.
