Lenny Daws v Michele Di Rocco - European title

Post by turbostar »

Shafikov has vacated the light-welter belt and these two will fight for the vacant title.

Di Rocco hasn't mixed with the same level of opposition that Lenny has throughout his career. Lenny should win this, but if this takes place in Italy there's a very real chance he could get screwed.

Great opportunity for Lenny this.

Daws has height on his side but age and power will be against him here. Daws has never been a power puncher and this Italian would appear to be. Hennessy does have a good record of winning purse bids tho and who knows how much of an advantage fighting at home could give as foreign boxers coming over here can sometimes fall to bits regardless of reputation. I haven't seen this Italian guy and doubt anyone here will have either so we can't speculate on who will go into the fight as the favourite.

Great opportunity for Daws and well deserved. No reason why Lenny shouldn't win this one.

Is this actually happening? I like Lenny Daws, wouldn't mind watching. It's not up on Boxrec.

The EBU have ordered the fight so the promoters will talk and if an agreement on who can promote it can't be reached then purse bids will take place. Hennessy has an excellent record winning purse bids and with Channel 5 behind him I don't see this one being any different.

Good man. :TU:

I always watch Lenny Daws when he's on. Mainly because he's a bit local to me. (We were born in the same hospital.) He's drifted towards Morden, whereby I now live in Croydon. But I've worked in Morden, and there were always posters up advertising his fights.

I always thought it was a bit of a shame Channel 5 don't show more of his fights, so hopefully they'll show this as a main event.

Lenny used to fight loads in Bethnal Green, didn't he? Even had a Wembley Arena outing. I'd consider popping up to London to watch it if he's there. But as it's on Channel Five, it might depend exactly where in London it is and ticket price etc...

Though saying that, DeGale's first two fights on Five have been in Kent and Hull, despite not coming from Kent or Hull and one of Tyson Fury's Channel Five fights was in Somerset. So you never know where it'll end up.

Kind off hope the Italians win as there's more chance of watching it online than Channel 5 showing it live the best we'll get is 2 or 3 rounds

I hope not. I did e-mail Channel 5 a few months back, asking them to show more of Lenny Daws fights. You'd assume a Euro title fight like this could get on the main event of a small town hall show, if nothing else.

Compared to James DeGale and Tyson Fury, Daws is a really likeable guy. It's such a shame he's hidden away on the non-televised bit of the undercard.

I live in Croydon.

I've not been to as many live fights as I'd like. And if this isn't on Channel Five, and it's local-ish to me I might consider going. All dependable when and how much it costs etc...

Maybe I'll bash into you. Us Croydonites could have a beer together. :TU:
