40-50 isn't necessarily old for fighters any more.

This is a perfectly reasonable fight for Price to take at this stage. I genuinely have no idea why people are moaning. The guy was in with Klitschko a few months ago and as Price says "if he's good enough to fight Klitschko he's good enough to fight me".

People are obviously getting frustrated that a Fury fight looks unlikely to happen any time soon but from what I can see that's no fault of Price's. Price and Maloney have repeatedly tried to make the Fury fight and Fury has continually avoided it using all manner of excuses.

Let's just let Price develop at a sensible pace and hopefully when he does get his world title shot he'll be good enough to win it or at least put up a very competitive display.

I'm happy with this fight, but I'd want to see him facing the likes of Pulev, Banks of Helenius within the year. Fury can go hang; it's a fight that would be interesting to see, but I genuinely believe he's a sideshow waiting to be exposed. A bit of a Gerry Cooney, perhaps.

Early 40s maybe, but the only world-level fighter near 50 is Hopkins. That in itself hardly means that age is not old for fighters "any more".

Again, I'm OK with this fight and Price's previous two, but the lack of cynical whingeing is quite conspicuous by its absence!
I assume you mean as opposed to Tyson Fury?

I think if Price is getting decent knockouts, so people are more prepared to look past the fact that he's fought a few pople past their best. (Or in Audley's case somebody who never lived up to their gold medal promise.) If Price had looked crap fighting these people, people would probably be all over him. Whereas Fury was knocked on his backside by the mighty Neven Pajkic, Price has been winning and winning well, even if it has been against people old enough to be his dad.

Also, Price is a lot more humble. You don't hear Price making an absolute fool of himself with stupid rants about beating people and their gay lovers Bellew. So, even when you're not comparing records, people just don't like Tyson Fury.
Good points re. the nature of the wins, but then again it does kind of back up my argument. Surely if a fighter is winning fights very quickly and easily at a certain level, then he should be the one moving quicker, rather the one who was "knocked on his backside by the mighty Neven Pajkic".

Fury is moving faster despite his noted flaws. And yes, he sometimes fails to endear himself to the fans, but we should be able to assess a fighter's achievements and potential based on their ring evidence, not on their personalities.

Price's opposition thus far has been very disappointing, there's no two ways about it.

Even assuming he beats Thompson, Mismatch will surely get him an easy knockover job to ensure a Lonsdale for keeps... meaning it's likely to be the back end of the summer before he fights someone else with arms.

Fury meanwhile has been moved at a much faster and better pace, despite having pointless fights with Rogan and Maddalone, he's managed to fit in wins over Chisora and Safetypin.... and appears to be in a decent spot moving forward.

If Price defeats Thompson his CV goes above Fury's. Thompson is the best opponent either of them have faced.

At this point, I think their records are quite similar - perhaps Fury gets the edge for the Chisora and Johnson wins. But even then, if you look at it, Chisora, whilst a good, undefeated prospect at the time, hadn't exactly fought anybody of much recognition, had he? His best wins were the two over Sexton and a completely shot Danny Williams. Johnson was a past his best journeyman who offered very little. His world title fight, in which he was similarly abject, was 3 years previously. Who, of note, has he beaten, before or since that fight? There's not many names on his record.

Also, it has to be taken into account that Fury has had 5 more fights. I am very confident that Price's next 5 opponents will be of a much higher quality than Tyson's last 5 (Firtha, Pajkic, Rogan, Maddalone, Johnson).
