The fight with Kessler not happening (yet) has nothing to do with the IBF insisting Froch fight their mandatory challenger first, does it? I thought that it's a case of a deal not being reached between the respective teams of Kessler and Froch.

I don't think he is passed needing belts at all, he's only the third best fighter at the weight. He still needs leverage.
In your opinion.

Fighters don't always have to stay behind those they have lost to.

The first Kessler - Froch fight was close enough so that if Froch went on and beat better opposition than Mikkel he could jump above him. That's what has happened ( in my opinion obviously! :TU: )

I think Carl can drop the IBF to fight for Kessler's belt. If he loses he can always look to take the WBO of IBF of whoever holds it.
I think if he loses he retires anyway.

Anyway, don't Kessler "owe" Froch a fight in England?

Kessler had no title before their first fight and he secured home advantage.

Froch will face Kessler. This is just something put out there as a negotiating tool, or possibly to buy time with the IBF before Kessler is signed.

Froch is better technially, but he will have to be careful.

See the link below for the adonis stevenson vs jesus gonzalez fight (the ko happens around 1 min 35)

Oh, I saw this before. I didn't realise it was Adonis Stevenson. That's a proper KO. Without me checking him on Boxrec, what was the other fighter like? Decent? He looked physically weaker and ready to go throughout.

Quite right. I didn't read the article as I just assumed that the reason the fight wouldn't happen was because the IBF had gone hardline on Froch and told him to defend against Stevenson.

If this is the case I hope we aren't waiting until May for a fight with Stevenson.

One will have to give up their belt if they fight as the WBA won't allow the World belt to be unified as the Super World belt is only given to a fighter when he unifies the decision.

It's fair to say that Stevenson wasn't on Froch's radar before Christmas so they must have been forced to defend due to no Kessler fight on the horizon and no excuse to delay. Not through choice, it wasn't in Eddies plans before.
Their dream 3 run out to the retirement were Bute , Kessler, Ward.

Kessler doesn't owe him anything. He's the draw, I would keep the belt if I was Froch Kessler's is a paper title, Ward is the WBA champion.

Keesler is still ahead of Carl for me, he beat him convincingly enough for that to last for me.
I agree that Kessler doesn't owe Froch a fight, and could probably earn big against anyone.

Not sure I'd rank him ahead, he's had a couple of long layoffs and his best win since is against Brian Magee.

Froch was whacked Abraham and Bute with ease since then, plus wins over Johnson and Mack.

The IBF are a bunch of hypocrites, they are threating to strip Carl Froch of his title for looking to fight one of the best boxers in his division in Kessler. But they allow a drug cheat in Lamont Peterson to keep his title for 14 months!!!

This is why boxing is a joke in most peoples eyes.
