Post by mullenman »

it could be a bad start of the year for eddie heran,

Kell will more than likely get bet by a top class devon alexander
if you dont think so just look at alexanders opponents compared to kells and there are wide appart
kell will probably get stopped late in this fight

froch v kessler is not looking good as matchroom cant pay kessler the cash
quigg wont fight frampton which is not eddie fault

bellew needs to step up if wants a title then he will be knocked out,

Win, lose or draw, the nature of Brook's performance is very important. If he gets hammered and exposed, he's soiled goods from then on in and that's pretty much all she wrote - just another Eurobum. If he does well, is gunning from bell to bell and appeals to the US taste buds, even if he loses he has a bright future. He must sell himself.

Froch versus Stevenson will sell out the Capital FM arena and will be compelling for as long as it lasts. Stevenson won't freeze and can bang.

Bellew should aim to challenge Chad Dawson or Jean Pascal (if he beats Dawson) in the summer. In either case he'd be viewed as a credible but fairly safe bet defence, so I think it's a realistic goal.

I think Brook will do well, maby not win but will be competative enough to get another chance.Febuary looks good for the content they have on sky and basicly we know what shows matchroom will put on till April. The next prizefighter look likes it could be one of the better ones and then we have the Belfast card which could be top draw aslong as they are lucky with injurys this time. Then Rees has a shot at a big name in Broner and i think he will suprise some people and put up a good fight. Then it` s Brook-Alexander before two shows in March, one in london with Barker and their London fighters and then liverpool with Bellew and also Crolla-Matthews on the undercard. The promoter who must not be named has announced fornicate all for next year next yet

i get the impression with Hearn ,that if his fighters give a good account of themselfs when fighting the best (like barker against martinez/Froch against Ward) that they will keep using them to pursue other title fights.... i think Brook will come through his fight and i still think Rees can beat Broner (i think hes underated fighter) if those two come through,or even one comes through then that is a good grounding

Plus there are a few younger fighters who after a few more shows should be challenging ,so i dont think its all doom and gloom

Brook has to win. A creditable performance is not good enough against a man who basically choked versus Bradley. The money for Froch-Kessler does not look like its there and there is every chance Bellew will get beat again when he steps up to World level. Quigg-Frampton would be great but its a genuine 50-50 fight with no guarantee of Frampton winning. Even if he does, he has no chance of joining the elite of Donaire and co! Sky have put all their eggs in one basket and those eggs could all break very soon..

When was Devon Alexander ever top class? three of those opponents beat him...easily

Not that that makes Brooks string of opponents any better mind

1st off his name is Hearn not heran .
2nd Devon Alexander will get beaten by Kell Brook he is a match in every department, far less experienced agreed but Kell was not taking his career as seriously up until Jones woke him up.You will see what the fuss is about by no means a walk in the park but Kell will shock his doubters .
3rd Froch v Kessler will happen in the summer needs a bit of building to make it financially viable for all concerned Froch wants revenge the postponement is more to do with Stevenson demanding his mandatory challenge than Matchroom being cheap.
Frampton does not need Quigg he will win the title in Belfast against Martinez. Then Quigg will be a super fight later in the year.As for Bellew he sells well is good to watch how is that bad for Hearn
I reckon your just trying to get a rise mate Matchroom have done alot for British boxing in the last 18 months more than any other British promoter IMO.
Get behind our British fighters abroad mate writing em off when they have a good chance of winning is ridiculous.

With you there TJ. The only thing I would add is that I am convinced Quigg v Frampton will happen in 2013.

Aleksander was soundly beaten by Mathysse but was gifted the result. Aleksander however is all wrong for Brook. He is a skilled boxer but not aggressive/come forward, which will not suit Brook. Brook will have to break him down with pressure and I don't believe he has the tools to do it.

Bellew might do well. Light heavy is a prertty thin weight class with some winnable fights for Bellew at belt level.

Broner v Rees is another Cotto v Jennings for me. Rees is tough and fearless but not on the same level as Broner. Stopped mid rounds.

2013 should give us some great fights, but there is no new wave of Brits that look like dominating anything.

Surely Dawson would be too much for him at this stage. I appreciate he was beaten easily by Ward but he was weight drained and at light heavy he's still the best by some distance. Bellew v Pascal would be a decent fight and I'd imagine a war.

Maybe Dawson would be too much (I think he would be) but I don't think Bellew is going to get much better. If he can be manoeuvred into a crack at the WBC belt for decent money and chance of glory, he should take it.

Seems an odd time to me to have made this post, as I would say that currently its looking like a good year for Hearn. He's got Brook his shot - yep no guarantees of winning but like some have said no reason why he couldn't win and even if he doesn't if the performance is good I don't think it will be game over for Kell. Hes got Rees a massive fight, many expect him to lose but wherelse was he going to go fight wise, this is as good as it could get for him. We don't yet know Bellew or Barkers opponents so thats wait and see, Frampton good fight v Martinez which if he's as good as he's looked/we hear he should win and it also looks to be a good card.

I'd say at the moment things are looking good for Hearn of course some of these fighers might lose and then the picture will look different but thats boxing isn't it? His youngsters will also continue to progress you'd think and they should end the year with a few belts British/English/European/Commonwealth etc I'm not suggesting world titles for the younguns

He also has McDonnell, who is on the cusp of a world title shot.

I'd be interested in the long term view, given that he's picked up all these fighters from other promoters, but one step at a time.

Maybe the odds are stacked slightly against Hearn's fighters - but they can handle themselves and can beat the Alexander's of the world.

For me as a fan - the likes of Brook vs Alexander, Froch vs Kessler and possibly Bellew, Frampton etc vs WBC and Quigg etc seem solid enough.

Boxing is in a bit of a muddle at present - with the new breed not looking that great, the new Olympian's not turning over and Golovkin aside, nobody looks like a true monster coming through any particular weight class.

The deepest divisions were welter, middle and super middle - but they are starting to dry up of big fights and new talent is not really forthcoming.

Pacquiao is on his way out, Marquez is old, Khan is fragile, Bradley is a little dull, Berto getting hammered, Mayweather facing poor challengers continually.

There is only Price vs Fury worthy of a big billing in comparison with the old Hatton vs Witter public interest of old.

At least Eddie is letting fighters off the leash in proper fights, and not wrapping them in cotton wool and holding them back away from other promoters.

We have Rees vs Broner next as well as Brook vs Alexander, lets not forget. Another fight for the fans.

"Ah but Rees will get beat" - so effin what, its better than him being fed Latvians !

Is Rees-Broner really a fight for the fans? I would have said its a fight for Gavin to make as much as he can with an outside chance of hitting the jackpot.

x2 -

I'm dissapointed about the rumoured situation that the Kessler fight might be off for Carl - but for two of his fighters he's delivered massive "proper" world title fights. One of these is considered a bit of a suprise chance.

Now (finally some might believe) Eddie is delivering for his fighters... and now he is getting slagged off. Its up to his fighters now, cannot fault Eddie.... although as I said, dissapointed it might not be Kessler.

Give the fella a break - his LAST FIGHT - he challenged for a world title against Cotto. Next up is a mutliple weight world champion who has passed every test that he has been put up with (okay, I am not given Guerrero much of a chance either).... however, rumoured following that is a one for the ages, cross generations battle with Alvarez.
