ROB Hunt has been handed his chance to win a big-fight jackpot.

The 27-year-oldwas last night called up for the welterweight "Prizefighter" tournament at Wolverhampton Civic Hall two weeks today after Karl Place pulled out.

The winner of three, three-round fights will claim a £32,000 cheque – and Hunt reckons he has the tools to take the prize in front of the Sky Sports television cameras.

"It's great news," said the punching plasterer from Stafford.

"My career was drifting a bit and this is a great chance for me.

"It's a bit late notice, but that means I won't feel under too much pressure

"I haven't been that confident in the past, but I really believe I can win Prizefighter and I'm just going to go for it."

Mark Thompson, a hammer-fisted puncher from Heywood in Lancashire, will be the bookmakers' favourite.

Hunt's other rivals for the big pay day include unbeaten prospects Glenn Foot, Steven Pearce, Calum Cooper and Dale Evans.

He will also know one of his rivals, Birmingham's Nasser Al-Harbi.

Hunt, beaten just once in 19 previous fights, says he has sparred "loads and loads" of rounds with Al-Harbi and is taking confidence from the Prizefighter record books.

"It's a good line up," he said. "I know Nasser Al-Harbi is a good boxer and there are also powerhouses like Chad Gaynor and Glenn Foot.

"But I've got long arms, good feet and can throw non-stop jabs for three rounds, no problem.

"You don't have to be a big hitter to win Prizefighter.

"Prince Arron and Terry Flannigan won it by keeping it long for three rounds and so can I."

Previous winners of Prizefighter have gone on to box for major honours, and Hunt will sharpen his skills with trainer Lindon Newbon at the Fight Factory gym in Longton in the countdown to the biggest night of his five-and-a-half year career.

"I'm going to spar three hard rounds, take a break and then spar for three more hard rounds," said Hunt.

"I had a few beers over Christmas, but I haven't put on too much weigh. I'm going to be in tip-top shape for Prizefighter.

"I think Prizefighter will suit me and if I do win it, I'm planning a big, all-inclusive holiday somewhere like Mauritius."

Werrington heavyweight Alex Ibbs entered the first Sky TV Prizefighter contest in April 2008, while Cellarhead's Scott Lawton took part in a super-featherweight Prizefighter contest at the York Hall in London's Bethnal Green in November 2010.

Your alright Mcato, I will pass on the regards, yes this is a big opportunity for Nas, with a tough field, a win will propel him to great heights, Erick and Nas are both very talented fighters both trying to make it to the top, all the best to both of them with God's wishes. I hear Nasser Al-Harbi has just pulled out the Prize Fighter ? If this is true then IMO its a shame, I thought he really had a good chance over the 3 rounds. If its illness again that has forced him out of yet another big chance then his team seriously need to get him checked over by doctors, every time a big opportunity comes he is taken ill. Like I say, it's a real shame another big chance missed for a talented kid.

Pripez always jumps on the bandwagon, when Nas is mentioned, are you stupid or something, I said he has only pulled out of one fight in 17, he has not pulled out of prizefighter, they took him out because his flight back was overbooked, so he could not get back in time for the promo, with Matchroom no promo, no Prizefighter, so as an amateur any loss was down to illness ? you are a complete idiot, why lie, to make a point, grow up will you.
