Re: 2013 Junior World Team Open
Is this a tournament that is going to be held every year?
Re: 2013 Junior World Team Open
I think they extended the registering till Monday 7am. Don't understand why they had this tournament same time as Usa silver gloves ? Doesnt give guys on east coast much time to make it in time for final register time. I don't think most trainers or fighters know the importance of this tournament? Imo they are not being fair to east coast fighters involved in Silvers.
Re: 2013 Junior World Team Open
154 is gonna be down right mouth watering as is but even more if Derrel.Gibbs from Ohio flys in Monday. 119 is up for grabs unless the best kid pound for pound Ruben Villa shows up. I think we gonna have a new pound for pound king after this tournament
Re: 2013 Junior World Team Open
USA Boxing are still taking entries-final day to enter 6 January.I like the look of the line-ups at 114 and 154.
Re: 2013 Junior World Team Open
I'm gonna be like a kid on Xmas being able to see these tremendous kids fighting their hearts out. That 154 is gonna be insane. Im so excited I'm gonna go a day early just to hangout. Can't wait to.see whom the late registers will be , I hope Gibbs at 154 makes it n Villa at 119
Re: 2013 Junior World Team Open
Thought I would do a quick review based on the current entrants,These type of competitions are always interesting in that they bring together boxers who have competed in different age groups. In 2012 some of these boxed in Senior class and others in intermediate.
101 Slade Corvin won a bronze at the Junior Olympics, was runner up at the Silver Gloves and won the Ringside all as a Senior whereas Jordan White has been impressive in winning the JGG and RS but at intermediate level.
106 Daniel Gonzalez won the SG and JGG titles at intermediate.Adrian Servin was a quarter-finallist at the JOS and runner up at the JGG as a senior and Kris Alcos was a JGG runner up as a Senior
110 Only two competitors here Timothy Longoria reached the final of the RS as a senior whilst Evan Sanchez has been there or thereabouts for a while mainly as an Intermediate.
114 Some strong boxers here-Isidro Ochoa won at the JOS but lost early in the JGG,Keeshawn Williams who seems to have piled on the weight was a runner up at both the JOS and SGS both as a Senior,Jose Borges won a bronze at the JO,Gustavo Hernandez won the JGG as a senior and Shakur Stevenson was runner up as a senior at the JO and RS.Ruben Villa if he attends is another JO Champion
119 Troy Isley won the National Pal as an Intermediate,Adolfo Alanis won both the SG and RS as an intermediate while Gonzalo Rodriguez was the senior champion at the JGG and runner up at the RS
125 Garrett Rincon did well at the JO as a Senior and faces two intermediate champions Keona Adric (JGG) and Michael Nelson (OSF/NP) Brandon Vega is dangerous
132 Jonathan Jarabek was a quarter-finallist at the JO-his main competitor might be Sebastian Fundura
138 Mykquan Williams swept the board at intermediate level winning the SG/RS/NP titles-Brandon Trejo might be the danger
145 Only two competitors Javier Estrada and John Harris 111.Neither won a major in 2012
154 This could be special-Alexis Rocha won the JO and was runner up at the SG and NP tournaments.Edgar Berlanga was runner up at the JOS but won the NP title at Senior Level and Jose Burgos was the Intermediate champion at the SG and RS.If Derrell Gibbs makes a late entry it will be even better
165 Akeem Mayle the OSF winner is the only entrant
176 No 2012 title winners here Alejando Larrando competed at the JO and Matthew Hernandez may be the one to watch
+176 Pano Tiatia won the JGG Senior title whilst at the same time Suray Mahmutic won the JGG Intermediate title
KEY
JO Junior Olympics
SG Silver Gloves
RS Ringside World
NP National Pal
OSF Ohio State Fair
Good luck to all and apologies if I didnt give you a mention

Re: 2013 Junior World Team Open
Suray is going to fight at 176 should be interesting
Re: 2013 Junior World Team Open
154 is going to good to.be true with or without Gibbs. That Jose Burgess kid is a 3 time.National Silver Gloves Champion. The kid is a Benitez type with very good power n he is a southpaw. Also Suray Mahmutovic is fighting.at 176 he won Jr GG was Runner up.in.SG last year at 145. I think I saw Villa at 119 at Silvers Tournament just a couple days ago , he and Isidro Ochoa from our region so one of em has to be at 119. Great.job on the reportmike222 wrote:Thought I would do a quick review based on the current entrants,These type of competitions are always interesting in that they bring together boxers who have competed in different age groups. In 2012 some of these boxed in Senior class and others in intermediate.

Re: 2013 Junior World Team Open
I.must add that Usa boxing is really trying to change things around by having this tourney early and by getting Team.Usa together now. Usa boxing is much more courteous polite and informative than the local Lbc. Really like the professionalism of this staff at World Juniors. Cant wait till action starts in like 24 hrs
Re: 2013 Junior World Team Open
Izaiha Bautista at 106 has fast hands n good body shots in impressive win today. Isidro Ochoa at 119 is an agressive beast that switches to southpaw at blink of an eye. This kid has some murderous body punches , I was really impressed by this kid. Izaiha n Isidro were the two.best kids from day 1

Re: 2013 Junior World Team Open
Shakur is very fast with excellent upper body movement. He was too athletic for his opponent but he seems small at 114. Ochoa vs Serna was a exhibition two Elite talented kids going at it. I thought the fight was much closer but those vicious right hooks to the body by Ochoa were a big factor. Ochoa is the best body puncher I have seen in a kid
Re: 2013 Junior World Team Open
Sorry I got Stevenson mixed up wit Haney. Shakur Stevenson is ultra fast southpaw with excellent boxing skills

Re: 2013 Junior World Team Open
Jordan White @ 101 is a excellent fast boxer with incredible accuracy he won a convincing fight by couple points.Isidro Ochoa was in very tough fight for second consecutive day but pulled out the tie breaker in very close fight. Edward Belanga @ 154 pulled of a major upset over 3 time National Silver Gloves Champion Jose Burgos. Berlanga used excellent speed n good ring command to not allow Burgos to get off. Suray Mahmutovic used excellent speed ,Jab n at 6 ft 4 inches was able to display Benitez type defense at times. Mahmutovic was able to post the highest score of the tournament so far winning 25-8. He also landed some flush uppercuts resulting in standing 8 count

Sorry my bad i got Jordan White score mixed up with Another fighter, should have realized by how many punches Jordan was landing at rapid fire that he won by way more than couple points .
