Wonderland (100 Whitechapel Road) fell within Whitechapel, not Mile End. I've confirmed this on the 1911 census.

Yes, sorry, you're right - Mile End should be changed as the venue area for Wonderland - as you say it was 'just over the border' at 100 Whitechapel Road - but the point is, I think, that two shows happened within half a mile or so on the same day. Not a big deal, obviously. I hadn't realised Wonderland burned down in 1911.

Hi Bob, was just making the point generally, as I noticed after reading your post that Wonderland has been listed as being in Mile End in the Boxrec database.

It's staggering how many fight venues staging regular bouts London had. As you say, two within half a mile of each other in this case. Goes to show how popular boxing was back then.

The circumstances surrounding the Wonderland fire were decidedly fishy.

It's an important point, thanks for pointing it out... I would be interested to know more about the fire. I've picked up a bound volume of Sep 1909 to March 1910, so am ploughing through it. Fascinating reading (if you like that sort of thing)...
