Gomez will be back - at 130lb

Post by jomothepure »

He will be appearing on the Jennings card, 25th Oct.

From allegedly TV:

Former two-time British super-featherweight champion Michael Gomez has kept alive hopes of a rematch with Alex Arthur after it was revealed he will make his ring return at 130 pounds.

Gomez has been out of action since losing his WBU strap to Javier Osvaldo Alvarez earlier this year on a devastating sixth-round TKO.

He later admitted to struggling at the super-featherweight limit, prompting speculation he would move to lightweight.

But having turned down a fight with Jon Thaxton at 135 pounds, Gomez is intent on once more proving himself in the super-featherweight division.

It was there that he had his October 2003 tussle with Alex Arthur, one of the best British title fights of all time.

Gomez, now 28, emerged victorious after five rounds, but has chased a rematch with Arthur ever since.

The chances of that appeared to have gone up smoke following the Alvarez defeat - until now.

The Mancunian, who has a 32-6 (22) record, will box in an eight-round contest in Preston on October 25 as he looks to get back to winning ways.

No opponent has yet been announced

I don't visit this site very often, so I don't know whether all the articles are written by SN people or are just picked up from independant sources -beacause the WBU 'strap' jibe caught my eye
