Surely this way makes more sense in business terms and is a tough ask.Puts him in a stronger position
for a unification with Broner.Lot of people questioned Ricky's bottle which is ridiculous.
Dont often have much positive to say about Fw but he has done well by Ricky here. :salut:

Very good fight.

Also, Vasquez and Burns may have stronger resumes than Broner, but I think that Broner has more ability than anyone else in the division, and I would have prefered Vasquez/Burns-Broner. Hopefully the winner of this bout faces Broner, which would settle most of the disputes about who the best fighter in the division is.

Vazquez has ten several defences at the weight, Broner has one fight and is now fighting Rees. This is as good of a fight for Burns if not better.

Its a good fight in terms of it being winable. Every in the us regurds broner as the no1. Hes had alot of exposure and has looked pretty untouchable. Hes ring no1, borec no1, hes defo the man the to beat. Winner of burns v vasquez will decide the no 2 spot in the division. It has to be obvious to everyone that burns team turned town the broner fight twice as they just dont fancy their chances.

This is fantastic from FW to be honest, Okay we didnt get the fight we wanted but on terms on Burns unifying championships is what everyone is calling against a more than capable opponent. If he wins this it puts him in a fantastic position to make the challenge to Broner in the summer. This is a fantastic chance for Burns.

It's not a question of IF for the Rickster but more of a question of WHEN... I know Ricky will win but let's hope he wins in style ;)

Fantastic fight. Broner is obviously otherwise engaged so it makes sense to unify. If Burns wins it sends out a message.

So he could have fought Broner in Broner's country, on Bronder's promoter's show, on Broner's date, having had to taper down and rush preparation after the farce of the December no fight. Or he can fight Vazquez at home, on his promoter's show on a date that allows him to prepare for 10 weeks.

Thats my fear too. Theres form here isnt there.
Vasquez got $30,000 (before deductions) for defending his title against Quintero! The kid doesn't sell a ticket, which is sad as he is highly skilled and technically solid. Trust me, he'll be getting a good wage compared to what he's been used to of late!

:TU: I'd agree that the winner of this will be the deserved no.1 in the division. I believe that Broner is the best fighter and will eventually prove so but rankings have to be based on what you've done and who you've beaten, not what people think you may do and who they think you would beat!

Terrific fight and smart match making. The winner will be a very tempting prospect to Golden Boy and Broner and would command a good purse - which they would well deserve.

Froch/Kessler and Burns/Vasquez are proper world class fights. Props to Eddie and Frank if we get these

Broner is their next “superstar”…which means he’s a juiced up, super draining, sprinter type with a big mouth and an act that appeals to people with double digit IQs. They’ll tip every single aspect of any fight in his favour and tell the world he’s harder than King Kong’s dad…

He missed the weight and nobody cared…

Yep. He's the new boy, & it's frankly a bit sickening to see the machinery & greed laid bare when it comes to the lad; we all know the deck is stacked but with someone like him you can really see it & it's fvcking disgusting.

Weigh in half a stone heavier than your opponent & you're some dude from the Dominican Republic: laughing stock & butt of jokes (as it should be).

HBO's new boy does it? Slip the opponent a bung & never ever mention it again.

It'd be enough to make a small-minded man really, really dislike him, just for what he represents.

What am I talking about? I am a small-minded man!

To those holding off on buying tickets: as has been pointed out, Vasquez can be had for a lot less money than his talent merits, so I see no reason for the fight to fall through over a money issue. I'd wait until the last two or three weeks or so and providing the right noises are still coming out of Vasquez' camp, I'd then take the risk. I learnt along time ago that rushing into buying boxing tickets is foolhardy.

Delighted to see this fight made and credit to all involved. Hopefully Burns wins and the really big fight can then be made.

There's also a risk to this fight - if Burns loses its a long road back. If he'd taken the Broner fight I'm sure they could still have got Vazquez over anyway given he's not a huge earner. A calulated risk though and one I hope pays off.

That or the fact Broner is a HBO fighter who they are trying to build into a PPV star. Fighting in Scotland at a time when most Yanks are still at work or doing the weekly shop does not figure.

That’s how I see it, mate.

I was a big fan of Paul Williams but when Martinez sparked him out it was a much welcome blow to HBO’s money machine.

The best hope was always that a Broner type messed up his draining and got found out late in the fight. But now if they can’t make it they don’t bother with the extra few ounces…just toss the opponent a few more quid and fight at whatever weight they can be arsed to get down to.

Top fight, top bill but am I the only one thinking Vazquez to pull out and Burns to end up fighting Walsh who's on the bill.

Vazquez was VERY lucky against Quinero, and I dare say he was a little bit lucky that Gesta did little more than look at himself on the big screen. Yes Titere has some great wins (Prescott, Kim, Zappa) though they've come against crude bangers, not good boxers.

Burns by a notable margin here.

Billy

Good luck to yourself, Ricky and the rest of the team. It’s been great following your successes and I hope it continues for many years to come.

Ricky, like Froch used to be, seems underrated on the world stage and has had to work for everything he gets. I hope we get more unification fights like this.

that sums it up - plus he uses the kind of angles that could give fits to a more upright, gangling guy like burns.

broner throws nice shots and seems hard to hit but he's flat footed and throws one (admittedly hard) punch at a time.

burns has been excellent in the last few fights, and regardless of whether burns-vazquez decides the top man at 135 it's a superb fight and it makes a strong case for the winner.
