Most Fights In a Single Event
Excluding early UFC, in boxing the record seems to be held by Bob Fitzsimmons, having fought 8 times against 7 men (he fought one of the seven twice) on the same card. Fitzsimmons did this in order to establish he was now a heavyweight competitor, and the biggest of these heavyweights was a man simply known as Louis The Giant, who was 6'9" and 240 pounds. Fitz kayoed him in two rounds.
Lamar Clark once fought six men on a single card, and on many other occasions fought four-five times on other cards. Of course, we all know George Foreman did the 'Toronto Five' exhibition where he fought five former contenders or fringe contenders in one event knocking them all out. However, has there ever been someone whose done more than eight fights in one day, exhibitions or otherwise? I imagine there are plenty of 'booth boxers' who have done so but unfortunately their exploits were never kept to record. I know in 'toughman' contests they often fight as many as four times in a night, and in the amateurs, they of course at times have one night tournaments where the same thing takes place. But would anyone know whether someone has fought more than eight times in a night?

Re: Most Fights In a Single Event
If gypsy accounts are to be believed, I was told by a few travellers that in the 1980s in Miami, Florida there was a huge "Born Again Christian" sermon where several hundred travellers appeared, and to the surprise of many England's Johnny Frankham showed up and not long afterward a bunch of shouting and challenges were thrown, and Frankham was forced into having several bare knuckle fights against American gypsies (who were not real athletes/boxers) and that he wound up knocking out twenty men on that day. Fearful that a revenge plot would be taken against him following this scenario, Frankham went back home to England.

Sounds realistic doesn't it Rufus?

Was there a primary source for 8 bouts on the same evening by Fitzsimmons? I didn't find anything of the kind in Chicago Inter Ocean, and don't have Adam's book at hand.

A guy like Frankham beating 20 average Joe's in bare knuckle fights? Sure. Theres alot of pros I could imagine could whip the dog crap out of average guys, regardless of number.Giancarlo wrote:HomicideHenry wrote:If gypsy accounts are to be believed, I was told by a few travellers that in the 1980s in Miami, Florida there was a huge "Born Again Christian" sermon where several hundred travellers appeared, and to the surprise of many England's Johnny Frankham showed up and not long afterward a bunch of shouting and challenges were thrown, and Frankham was forced into having several bare knuckle fights against American gypsies (who were not real athletes/boxers) and that he wound up knocking out twenty men on that day. You say "except for early UFC" in your original post. Hell even in the days of the Early UFC, I never recall guys fighting more than 3 times in a night. 8 Fights in a night is pretty damn impressive. Even if several of them were bums...and I'm sure they were.
Re: Most Fights In a Single Event
CBZ doesn't even list the date for those bouts, had it been confirmed it would have an exact date. It's not a primary source, anyway.

Re: Most Fights In a Single Event
Actually was wrong, it was 7 fights in one night (2 of which were with the same opponent), but prior to that Fitzsimmons also had three exhibition fights. That makes 10 fights so to speak in one night.gilgamesh wrote:You say "except for early UFC" in your original post. Re: Most Fights In a Single Event
CBZ gives a date for another set of exhibitions that were scheduled at Philadelphia. It doesn't give a date for supposed 7 bouts on the same evening at Chicago. Then it even lists results of 8 bouts, but states there were 7 bouts, unless the first Paul Loeser W5 bout was held on another day.
