These were all fighters who were given a shot at the heavyweight crown. Does anyone see a worthwhile contender on the list. For the ones deemed unworthy, maybe someone could offer an explanation as to why they were given a shot. The list is in no particular order.
Sott Ladoux
Richard Dunn
Renaldo Snipes
Jesse Fuguson
Lorenzo Zanon
Terry Daniels
Chuck Wepner
Scott Frank
Jean Pierre Coopman
Marvis Frazier
Alfredo Evangelista
Lucien Rodriguez
Jose Roman
Ron Stander
Randell Tex Cobb

Snipes was a respectable contender. He knocked Holmes down and actually should have knocked him out. He had some decent wins in his career.
The rest of the names were mostly easy paydays whom the champion fought to keep busy.
I do remember that Jessie Fergason was pretty much a journeyman, but he had just upset Ray Mercer. Mercer was going to get a title shot against Bowe, but they gave to Ferguson after Mercer lost.
By the way, Richard Dunn's fight with Ali was kind of funny. Dunn got knocked down to his knee for a brief moment. He got up right away and actually tried to hit Ali with a behind the back punch while he was getting up! Ali played around with him and knocked him down several times before the fight ended in the 5th round.

I remember Holmes going down from a right, similar to the one thrown by Earnie Shavers. Was the closest thing Iv'e seen to a knockot, with the fighter surviving. I remember that Snipes had enough time if he could have mounted an assualt to finish Holmes, but all he was able to do was to throw some wild punches that never came close. With that the round ended along with any chance for Snipes. Thus the begining down the path to the ex contenders scrapheap.
