Especially as they apply those rules from the first fight of a pros career you cant underestimate the importance of those contests so 1 lapse of concentration the ref/judge could determine whether somebodys gonna be a prospect or just the opponent

BBBofC insistance on refs scoring fights-time for change?
In America etc it doesnt matter if its a 4,6,8,10 or 12 round fight theres always 3 scoring judges but in the UK a ref can score anything up to a 10 rounder, christ if it wasnt for the Tyson Fury/John Mcdermott first bout the ref would still score an English title fight, now is it just me or should we follow suit across the pond because if your trying to both referee and judge a fight then surely one or the others going to suffer(or in some officials case both).for instance if your focusing on infringments then you could lose sight who the better boxer is,especially if its a close bout or vice-versa if your looking to judge you might not notice the sly dirty tricks that we know boxers can get up to.

Couldn't agree more but I don't think the promoters would be too happy about stumping up another 100 quid per judge especially on small hall shows where the difference between profit and loss is marginal.

x2 it is just not financially viable on small hall shows as Promotors are struggling to cover cost never mind show a profit

Can BBBoC not just make officials work for x amount a show rather than by each contest :?? then that way it doesnt matter if their doing 1 fight or 10,but yeah i suppose the shows that dont have a major title fight on the bill wont have as many officials presentspudder56 wrote:The Insider wrote:Couldn't agree more but I don't think the promoters would be too happy about stumping up another 100 quid per judge especially on small hall shows where the difference between profit and loss is marginal.

They work on a show basis now mate
Re: BBBofC insistance on refs scoring fights-time for change?
In an ideal world there would be three judges but, as some of the lads above have already mentioned, forking out an extra three hundred is simply not financially viable for some of the smaller promotional outfits. I know to some posters it might not sound like much but at that level, working on such tight margins, it is.

Yes mate margins are very tight for small hall promotors and paying out £300 plus expenses could be the difference between making a small profit and actually losing money on the show
Re: BBBofC insistance on refs scoring fights-time for change?
There is no need to change.
Re: BBBofC insistance on refs scoring fights-time for change?
Hard to disagree with you Mr Horse, after such a well-thought-out and reasoned reply.....nothing like giving us your examples of "why".Horse wrote:There is no need to change.
Anyhow: I actually have always thought a ref should ref and a judge should judge, so I am in favour (although the money aspect struck me as the obvious floor instantly).
Best wishes,

Horse, are you from Liverpool? I've always imagined you were a Yorkshireman for some reason but "blert" is pretty much exclusively Scouse, isn't it?

There should be 3 judges as you can't do two jobs in one. What about fighters who get a bad decision because of the ref/judge's bad decision. It has happened a thousand times through the years and it needs to be changed no matter what the cost to the promoter.
The boxers pay their licence fee and medicals which can cost upto a £1000 and they deserve to be judged accordingly and professionally.

Re: BBBofC insistance on refs scoring fights-time for change?
As said earlier I agree in principal but it's just not practically financially viable for promoters to do so. Example. 3 fight Dinner show, 1 local ref, say 120 quid including expenses. Now factor in another 3 judges @ 100 quid a piece without expenses and I'll guarantee at least 1 ref will be out of town and require expenses of around 50-100 quid. So now your 120 quid for a ref has now turned into 500 for refs and judges. I know promoters who would be happy at turning a 500 quid profit let alone pay that out on Refs and judges.escobar wrote:There should be 3 judges as you can't do two jobs in one. If all over the world it is done, why are we not following suit. Many boxers have been done wrong because of a referee's bad judgement or even bias. Remember the ref knows who is supposed to win and majority of the time goes with the promoters fighter and not the away boxer or journey man.The Insider wrote:As said earlier I agree in principal but it's just not practically financially viable for promoters to do so. The BBBoC make money off the boxers. Boxers get taxed off the BBBoC if they make 3000 or more. They is money around to make it happen. At first promoters will not be happy with a £500 loss of profit but for the justice of the boxers and paying public, they need to fall in line with the world.

Re: BBBofC insistance on refs scoring fights-time for change?
There is less than 0% chance of this happening if the promoters have to pay the going rate for judges. They would up sticks and start on the unlicensed circuit as some have done already. The only way this would happen is if the judges fees were dropped and the Board subsidised some of the cost. The other point worth mentioning is that you would have to allow B class referees to judge as there would not be enough A and A star refs to judge country wide (doubtful we would have enough if all refs could judge anyway) which then could lead you back to square one if the b star refs were inexperienced or basically shat. Lots of things to consider. Either way I doubt it will be happening anytime soon.escobar wrote:If all over the world it is done, why are we not following suit. 100% agree a ref should never judge a fight he is refereeing because like you say if there is a lot of holding and splitting the fighters up how can he tell who won the round?handsofstone wrote:In America etc it doesnt matter if its a 4,6,8,10 or 12 round fight theres always 3 scoring judges but in the UK a ref can score anything up to a 10 rounder, christ if it wasnt for the Tyson Fury/John Mcdermott first bout the ref would still score an English title fight, now is it just me or should we follow suit across the pond because if your trying to both referee and judge a fight then surely one or the others going to suffer(or in some officials case both).for instance if your focusing on infringments then you could lose sight who the better boxer is,especially if its a close bout or vice-versa if your looking to judge you might not notice the sly dirty tricks that we know boxers can get up to.
