At the WBC convention this was suggested.
Jose Sulaiman also announced a proposition submitted by referee Joe Cortez to increase the weight of the gloves from eight to 10 ounces for all weight divisions through super welterweight, and from 10 to 12 from middleweight up, and leaving eight ounces for the two smallest divisions. "One of the reasons is that there has been research in which they have found less knockouts and less punishing punches with heavier gloves," he said.
I'm not wholly in favour of this idea , as i feel that most injuries occur because the fighter injured is taking punches for a long time, not many injuries happen because a fighter is knocked out early.
Surely if a fighter is allowed to take more punches, because his opponent can't knock him out , more injuries will occur.
Does that make sense?
Is this a good idea?

Totally agree - what does the damage is the repeated jarring of the brain against the skull - whether you have big gloves or not, the jarring is the same.topper123 wrote:At the WBC convention this was suggested.

Think about it - how many fatilities have been in the early rounds and with brutal, horrible looking knockouts?
Also in the Ultimate Fighting Championship and other MMA contests they use 2 ounce gloves and there have beeen no fatalities there...
