Quickest KO

Post by wouter »

The Dal Hawkins v. Martin Flaherty fight on the Corbett-Fitzimmons bill is listed here as a win for Flaherty. I read in Ring magazine that it was Hawkins who knocked Flaherty out at the 14-second mark, including the count.

That's my contribution. It's a very early entry by me, so it will take some thinking to remember the source. As it is a late 1800s bout, it probably wasn't a newspaper.

EDIT: It in fact may have been a newspaper account. I remember reading a "day-after" article about Al Brown's quick KO over Tiger Humery of Jan. 1929 (to which I added the comment):

http://www.boxrec.com/boxer_display.php?boxer_id=008994

That newspaper article made mention of the Dawkins KO having been perhaps the quickest in the U.S. (excluding the ten-count).
The source may also have been Blewett's book, altho' I cannot locate my copy at the moment. It's buried somewhere at home.
Nevertheless, I believe all I did was add the comment, not the actual Dawkins bout itself, but I'm not certain.

Does anyone know what the Thunder-Grimsley KO was listed as? It couldn't have been much more than 13 seconds.

Just checked out the tape of that bout, 13 seconds with count. Grimsley threw a lazy left and Thunder dropped an overhand right that starched him. Grimsley actually threw more punches at the doctor while he was on the canvas right out of it.
