Gennady Golovkin P4P the hardest punching active boxer?

Post by Teddy's Toupee »

Gennady Golovkin wins again by stoppage. Is his power flattered by the level of his opposition, or is he a genuine banger like Julian Jackson?

I watched the bout today Teddy; he is not a hitter like Jackson but more like Kostya Tszyu - precise and every punch has body weight behind it. I don't think there'll be anyone like Jackson for quite a while; he seemed to have a God given talent for the knockout. Best hitter at the moment P4P looks to be Donaire though that Mikey Garcia looks a fantastic puncher (v Salido).

First time I've seen Golovkin and I was impressed with his variety of punches, his uppercuts thrown from distance were top notch

Yes, a fantastic result against Campillo. The only other man to stop him was an Eastern European as well (Ukrainian).

Stop showing off palooka. Rupert is charging you a small fortune for it (unless you watched it on allegedly, which seems reasonable value for money). :shame:

I'd not seen that he'd stopped campillo, I'll look out for that.

Grenadine is quality. They are gradually raising his profile stateside with his last couple I think and were kinda hoping for a highlight reel ko. Instead they got a course in butchery which still did the trick .
In answer to the question I'd say yes p4p , Donaire too

It's always hard to rate the really little guys but Roman Gonzalez down at light fly can really hit.

Matthyse at light welter is clearly a banger.

Randall Bailey has genuine one hit power and always has, but he's lost the ability to pull the trigger somewhat.

Keith Thurman looks like he can hit too, but it's hard to rate him as he's not really fought anyone that good and he still looks a bit ragged round the edges.

Gonzalez at feather is also a hitter.

Garcia's jabs were like full blooded right hands , sharp fighter . Hated the way it was stopped on a bust nose no blood coming out either . Even the inside walls of his nostrils are tough!

It' difficult to say Price is hardest one punch P4P boxer when you consider his level of opposition. If he does to opponents at world level what he's now doing to fighters at domestic level then maybe you could consider him. Personally i can't see beyond Donaire at the moment both for the level of opposition and the manner of the KO's, some of which are utterly chilling. I've had nightmares about Montiels twitching leg ever since.....

Re Golovkin i feel once he starts fighting world level fighters we won't see many 1 punch KO's but more a wearing down of opponents a'la a pre wraps margarito. He looks like an exhausting guy to fight due to the immense physical and mental pressure he puts fighters under and he'll stop them due to accumulation of punches rather than crushing one punch power. Hopefully we'll see him in with Martinez, Quillin, Lee or one of our 3 this year.
